Date with the stealership tomorrow,

So if anyone has any last minute advice/tips on my 400rpm idle tell me now. I've cleaned the IACV and adjusted the screw to raise and drop the idle, nothing has worked thus far. I'm sure I'll go in and they'll give me some bs about something or another and charge me the 80 in labor and solve nothing. So here's the problem, car idles perfectly until it warms up, then drops to either 400 or 600 depending on the day. The only problem I have atm is an exhaust leak which I'm about to swap the gasket for on friday. Otherwise I'm throwing no cel whatsoever. I was throwing a P1508 but once I reset the ecm it went away(P1508 is for the iacv) I just finished cleaning the iacv with brake cleaner, let it air dry for thirty minutes and if anything, it now runs worse. So any advice is much appreciated, I'll do anything to avoid seeing those partially trained morons. Thanks guys and as a heads up, I have not swapped the fitv because from my understanding it closes when the engine warms up to actually drop the idle?

If you have any friends who own a 5G Prelude, swap your FITV with theirs. If it does the same thing, swap your IACV with theirs. If it still does the same thing, at least you can rule those out.

when you adjusted the screw on the throttle body for your idle rpms, did you remove the IACV connector?

1. unplug the wiring connector for the IACV
2. let the engine warm up to operating temp and have the fan turn on once. (when i adjusted my idle i drove my car hard around the block to get the fan to come on)
3. on the throttle body, there is a screw that adjusts idle. turning clockwise increases idle rpm. counter-clockwise lowers idle rpm.
4. wait a minute for the idle to stabilize
5. adjust idle again if necessary
6. wait a minute then reconnect wiring.
7. Hope your idle is good

im writing the procedure down from memory. check your manual.

well if you got a code for your iacv, even if it ditn come back when you reset it then you should look into getting a new one as obviously there is an issue with the other one or else it wouldnt have thrown that code.

Well the code popped up after adjusting the idle? Also, I did the adjustment following the helms precisely. It ran in the correct range for a lil bit afterward, now I cannot get it out of the 400-500 range. There are no preludes around here, at least none that I know would be cool with swapping parts out. But thanks anyways guys, hopefully they actually accomplish something this time around. I dread every time I have to go there.

really?? i love going into the honda dealership, i learn allot about hondas, i get to flirt with some pretty girls, and most of the time i am buying a part for my car.....the stealership is one of many places that i really enjoy spending my money(even though it is usually overpriced......lol). Plus talking to parts guys and service techs and other Honda mechanics helps me resolve issues that may be weighing on my mind. What you need to do is go and build some rapport so they knwo you and like you and want to give you deals and help. If you do not do that then they will only see you as a mark....lol....good luck!

I believe the proper range is 800 +/- 50.

Also, Bouckarooo, you are a lucky man. Mine has no nice looking women and most information I get is incorrect. haha.

I went yesterday, paid 34 bucks I believe. They tried adjusting my idle, said the port for the screw was clogged so they cleaned it and adjusted it using the... I cannot remember the name of that digital idle readout tool. Anyways, they told me it was running perfectly on 800. I hop in my car with that new car feeling and turn it over, ...400 rpm's. I walk back in and politely tell them it's still running at 400(although slightly smoother than before), and they tell me that my rpm gauge is off and it's actually at 800? I do not understand that, even if it was off wouldn't it come up to at least 6/700? So basically, I don't believe it, but if I can't figure it out I'll complain and get it checked again for free. Then maybe my buddy will be there to hook me up haha. Damn stealership.

He is a awesome guy! I love honda literally LOVE. If I didn't have a girlfriend I would be there all the time buying beautiful mugen merchandise and oil filters I can go on... Dream job = Working with Honda

I bet we would too man!!lol, i love the honda dealership and it loves me, all the people at my local one love it when i come in. I get good deals and great info. Some people just don ot know how to deal with people on a business level and they are the ones who complain(to bad for them let their sorry assses pay full dealer prices). Often when i need to take my car to the dealership i will have all sorts of people comment on it and ask to drive it. and also when i tune my headlights on it increases the rpm by about 75.(thast the one with the projector/halos, the stocker doesnt increase with light on).

I guess I'd rather do the work myself it at all possible, but I do get along with two of the tech's there. My problem being they weren't going to be there, so I'm quite skeptical of the job being done lol

Talk to the two techs and tell them you want them to do the work for you. Don't be afraid to ask it's your car your money your choise.

haha I definitely do that. Some of them get annoyed by the amount of stuff I question them on. I'd say the dealership beats almost all of the local shops and any other 'brand' of dealership I've been to. I mean, none of us have rapidly accelerated yet lol
