Damn! Found a crack on my windshield!

Hey guys, I found a crack on my windshield (not a chip, a CRACK!)... I know it came from a big piece of flying ice that hit my windshield two weeks ago...

I'm not sure if I should bite the bullet a pay for it myself or call my insurance company... as well, I want an OEM rather than an aftermarket one...

Does anybody have any experience in all this? I've never had to replace my wildshield before...

Keith

I got a crack in my windshield and called the insurance company. My deductible for accidental stuff like that was only 25 bucks. So i got a new windshield.

there are people who can fix small chips and cracks for a fair price, i think they charge you by the size of the damage, it doesn't hurt to try calling them first. and think about your deductible before contacting your insurance company.

you should just call places first before having to buy a whole new window...I have a small rock chip right in the corner of my windsheld and still don't know how it got there..Oh well though, it doesn't really bother me anyhow

If you are talking about one on a windshield then that will have to be replaced. Too long to fix.

Cracks are generally unrepairable. If you have COmprehensive coverage-it pays and has nothing to do with the rest of your policy. I've been thru 3 due to chips from long trips that could not be fixed. I paid the deductible and drove away with a brand new OEM one time and an LOF brand (same as PPG). It is your choice which one you get if available. ANother thing, the seals on a 5th gen should always be replaced-no sort ofs on this according to my glass shop (50 years experience).
The little chips can be fixed-been there and did that too.
