Cut the Shift Boot????

I am planning on buying a new shift Knob and I was wonding has anyone taken off the little plastic peice that holds the boot to the stock shifter knob.... and what does it look like after?? does anyone have pics of this?????

Actually I'm interested in this as well, I bought my 2000SH with 11K Km's on it, and the original owner installed a "personal" shift knob, and ya, that plastic bit doesn't fit over the "ball" under the knob (man that sounds bad).

-take off the centre console
-from the underside of the shift boot, cut the zip-tie and remove the stock plastic ring
-turn the boot in about an inch and use a zip-tie/rubber band to pinch it together
-slip the boot back over the stick and it should be snug

LOL... that sounds too easy...... i was tring to pull the damn thing off with FORCE...it was never succesfull.....lol
