I leased a 2001 Pearl White SH in 2001 and bought a 2001 Silver Base 5spd in 2005. I only say that to show that I'm not totally clueless on the vehicle.
I found a 2001 Pearl White 5spd with <60k miles on it. The owner can not send me pictures due to lost digital camera. Luckily it's only 40 minutes away so I'm going to look at it Saturday.
They claim to be 2nd owner and that the original owner custom/special ordered the vehicle directly from Honda. They claim that they ordered leather seats and a factory lip kit/gfx installed from the factory.
I know that leather wasn’t an option, and I didn’t believe GFX/Lip kit was for 2001 (I know leather was available on earlier 5th gens).
I asked if she had the paper work from the original owner showing these items were done by Honda, and of course the answer was no. Has anyone heard of heard custom orders on any 5th gens like this? The only explanation I could think is either the dealers it was purchased from had these things done prior to the guy taking delivery or it was done after 1st owner took delivery and he gave this story when he sold it.
OEM lip kit I would probably believe (what's it really matter who installed it?) but leather was not an option in the US as far as I know. They could possibly be out of a Canadian version of the car, but again, why does it matter where they came from if they are OEM seats?
I just never heard of any 5th gens being "special builds" but I was never into the forum scene back when I had my first two.
In the end it doesn't really matter, I was just curious if anyone had heard of this being done by Honda.
On a side not what kind of value would you put on a 2001 Base 5spd with 56k miles? She said these were the only things done that were not "stock". Also said car garaged in winter and has no rust. I was guessing $8-9k.

Depends where you live. Anywhere outside of Cali where everything is stupidly expensive, I would think that price was high.
When I was car shopping a few years ago I found Edmunds TMV thingy to be pretty accurate.
Do you know if the t-belt job has been done yet? If not, that's going to be another $800-$900 service that will need to be done soon after purchasing it. Be sure to factor that into your offer.

Thanks - I have it on my list of questions to ask.
I doubt it's been done becuase of the low mileage.
I also asked for the VIN so I could run a carfax - it should be listed on there...I'll ask anyway.

Of course where you live, condition of vehicle, etc. has a lot to d with the price. The above prices were for a 2001 silver 5 speed with leather. Also the KBB and Edmunds is for a car that is in excellent shape (which very very few almost 10 year old cars are).

Yeah the Edmunds didn't change for my area, but I think the KBB was lower here.
I agree on the excellent condition, but Saturday will tell. They claim it's in "like new" condition.
I doubt it's been done because of the low mileage.
It's due to be changed soon. It is both time and mileage dependent and needs to be changed at around 100k or about every 10 years. You really don't want that belt to break.
The only from the factory option is the SH enhancement package that your well aware of in the US.The first Preludes had some problems, plus over time their were some enhancements made to the lude, but if you buy a 1999 or later model the problems are fixed and the only enhancement you would get from buying a newer one then a 1999 model involves a child's car seat attachment.
I would not buy a lude if the engine or suspension has been modified for the following reasons:
1: A modified engine is usually a sure sign of an engine that has probably has been flogged to death, probably regularly run above its red line rpm which shortens its life, possibly had stress place on it it was not engineered to take, and may have to be fed a steady supply of oil between oil changes.
2: A modified lude may not comply with the laws in your state.Their are people with modified engines that come on Prelude sites all the time crying over the fact they that can't pass an emissions test in the states that require it and don't have the original parts to put the car back to stock form if necessary so they can pass the test. Also, some states restrict the modification of suspension systems, and if your in a wreck, insurance companies and lawyers can use the mods against you.
3:Certain mods can reduce fuel economy, shorting engine life, trade mid/low rpm power for more top end power which is not a good trade off when trying to move a 3000lb car with a 4cyl engine, and and may stick the buyer with some expensive and frustrating maintenance issues related for example to improper tire wear.
In conclusion if you want a drama free car that will last, then buy one thats not been modified except by the factory in the case of the SH .
Hahahahaha nice. However I do have a question for sh driver. U said dont buy one with a modified engine or suspension. You listed reasons for the engine but not the suspension. Why is that? Suspension is a great start because then you dont have to pay to do it yourself

Ok, the op has already stated the only mod's done were cosmetic so why dont you spew your anti modding crap somewhere else! Second thought, DON'T!

Lipkits were optional accessories across all years for the 5th gen. 2001 was the only year that had the Electron Blue color choice and the only lips available at handa-accessories.com are Electron blue.
