CUSTOM LED TAILIGHTS FOR 5th Gen

Just wanted to get the word out about a project i will be undertaking. Myself as well as a good friend of mine who is a computer engineer, will be working on a custom led board and controller which can be mounted inside 5th gen tail lights replacing the all of the standard lamps. I am making this post as such a project will be quite costly. I have estimated that the development will proabably cost around $2000. So with that in mind i was wondering if anyone would be willing to contribute to such a project. The tail lights will be full multicolored led (red and amber), with scrolling amber arrows (through red) for turn signal, and variable intensity brake lights. Please let me know what your thoughts are. Any contributors will get first dibs on final product at cost. I am not trying to make any money here, just want to make something for our cars that no one else has.

Just to clarify, the initial cost will be $2000 for design and production of the prototype, once this is complete, the final product should be reasonably priced. I would like your input, when this project is done what do you guys think they should sell for? Trying to figure out if this is a viable project or not. SO what is the most you owuld pay for such a product. dont want to waste a few months designing these things if no one can afford them when im done. I was hoping to be able to make them cost about $350. And when i say cost i mean that with no profit in mind, just enough to build it and ship it to you.

Dude I hope you are making some top of the line **** or something 2k for tail light on prototype is a lot. Even if you can sale it for like 350 is still way to much. If i remember it correctly threre is a site where he already have a curcuit with LED on it and a onverter for it very nice, and not costly. (I can't find at the momment but that site did have a prototype LSD of a 3000 GT LED, very nicely done)

they will be the nicest tail lights you have ever seen, that is why they will cost so much to develop. I have never seen in any vehicle with multicolored led tail lights. As for the arrow, that is all in the programming of the controller, so it can be changed to whatever. The cost is relative to the product. I am not an artist but i will try to get some basic images on here asap.

People on this board are cheap bastards. Even if they were $350, they would not buy them unless they were full taillight replacements, rather than a fabricated board. Half of them wouldn't be willing to open up their taillamps to perform this mod anyway.

It will take some creativity to get them to look good too. Having OEM-style "dots" similar to the g35 coupe and fx45 won't work very well on our lens. A better bet would be to do a cadillac-style approach, however the reflector piece will ruin the effect.

In the end, you will probably get about 5 people max that will be willing to purchase these from you. Prelude owners are cheap bastards. Not trying to be an ass, just trying to be realistic here.

It's just not worth it to mass produce expensive parts for a discontinued car that had crappy sales anyway.

how about making normal, less fancy, LED tail-lights to finance the production of these 'uber' LED tail-lights. With two different products, you will be able to market to more customers...

yeah, that would look good, and id be interested if the outcome was worth it, although if you somehow lowered the price to about the middle to low 200 region it would be a bit more worth it, and i think that by buying the clear oem style you would be able to knock costs down rather than buying a new oem pair, but i think a oem with LED would look better so i duno, do a ms paint sketch to give us an idea

i'll admit, that i'm one of those cheap bastards. i'm poor. But what u are asking is charity, and yea, we are poor and most likely will not give out any money. this is the question that will run through peoples minds. "WHAT WILL I GET In RETURN?" and i know u can't promise them a set for free, cause thats just not good buisness. What u need to do is go ahead and fab up a proto type and base interest and sales on that. u'll need to take the finacial hit before u can make money

Dumbsicklude---make a set for your car and post picts. If someone here likes what they see then offer your services. Then maybe you can make some money. Just my 2 cents.
