Cruise Control- clicking coming from switch/button FIX?

Whenever I set cruise control at a somewhat low speed, 35-40 in 5th gear, a random (not constant) clicking sound comes from the switch/panel with the CC, moonroof, and dimmer or from somewhere around there. I have read from this thread that it's the actuator starting to go. The clicking started after a 300+ mile road trip going at speeds anywhere between 70 and 100 mph. I used CC almost the entire time. CC helps me relax, but I can't relax with that incessant clicking. Is there a fix for this or should I learn to live with it?

On a related note, the plastic coating on the CC, moonroof, and dimmer button is starting to peel. Any ideas on how to get rid of the coating or maybe replace it.

On an unrelated note, that's not worth starting a new thread over. Does anybody know the part number for or where to buy the OEM fuel filter for the Prelude on the internet. I can't find it on Majestic Honda. I think it's about time to replace it and I only use OEM parts. **** FRAM.

Prelude is a 2000 SH with 100k miles and no modifications.

Thanks in advance.

Bump with additional details.

The clicking is at any speed. It's really annoying and only seems to be getting worse. Somebody please help a fellow Luder out.

Just get an aftermarket filter. OEM ones aren't really "oem" they are made by other companies, usually the same ones that make aftermarket stuff. As for the ticking check your fuses/relays, there might even be troubleshooting steps in the helms

Thanks JGB for the part number. I appreciate it. I know OEM parts aren't always made by the original manufacturer, but a fuel filter is important and I want it to last a long time. Honda designed the car to run with that part and that part only. I'll be sure to test out the fuses and relays, but do you think that could cause the clicking? I looked through the Helms, and there is troubleshooting for Cruise Control, but nothing about clicking (of course). Here's a part list for CC if anybody has any idea which part could be going out.

its not that its designed to run with "that part only", but its designed to run with "that part that has those specs". in the case of fuel filter, size (both physical, and filter size), i'm guessing some other aspects about how it filters are required. Its not always teh manufacturer that they care about, really just what specs are present, and the quality of it, pretty much all that matters. You can get some better quality aftermarket fuel filters...

Ugh. Just get a honda filter you can never go wrong with one and their reliability is great. I don't think there is a high quality fuel filter for our car besides the honda filter but anyway what's the point it doesn't make a diffrence.

Meh, most Aftermarket parts are made to meet or exceed OEM specs.

I suppose you're right apocolipse269, but if I can get an OEM fuel filter for 20 bucks, I'll get it.

On the Cruise Control, I replaced the fuse for it and the clicking is still there, just as bad as it was with the old fuse. Again, the clicking is coming from the switch on the left and by the dead pedal. There's no way in hell I can put on cruise control and stick my head down there without having a wreck. If I can get somebody to ride with me and hold the wheel, then I guess I could. Anyways, does anybody know which part could be failing? This is driving me up the wall and I doubt a mechanic could diagnose this. Please help.
