Crappy Transmission Question

Hey, I'm looking at pickin up my first 5th gen. I totally love everything about the BB6, i wanted to get something a bit different, don't wanna be like every brotha rep'n a civic. So here is my concern tho. I have heard consistently that the auto lude is trouble, not a problem for me cause i hate auto anyway. But i have also heard that the manual tranny in the 5th gen ludes is not so great either. Is this true? What is this based on, and what are the problems? Is there a way to get around it, like maybe doing the H2B swap? Thanks.

The manual tranny issues are mainly 2nd and 5th gear grinds.

Personally, I've never had any problems with mine after 194,000 miles.

My 5th gear syncro was replaced under warranty. No problems after that.

the manual trannies like all trannies will grind if you drive the piss out of them and do not shift correctly; mine has not given me any trouble and it now has about 170,000 kilometers(like 150000 mile), although i am due for a swap it is only to put the lsd into the tranny, not to replace it cuz it broke. I know couple people who have the auto and they had it rebuilt and it works great....costs lots and i would prefer a 5 speed but to each thier own...

What about gearing and such? I've heard that in other cars using the H22a, that they will swap out the tranny for a B series. They say its because the gearing in the H22 trans is too short or something to utilize the full power of the RPM band.... or something like that :-P Ever heard anything similar?

Yes but that only applies to swapped cars.

That is true for 1st => 2nd shift. If not done exactly right, 2nd gear will be right below VTEC engagement... that's if you're into that drag racing thing.

^Most people shift at 8K for first to avoid that.

I'm into the go-fast thing Lol, so i guess there's not really a solution to that eh? And what do you mean "not done exactly right" is there a right way to do it so you do get some VTEC action?

If you don't shift at the right time or shift too slow.
