Cranky transmission experiment

Hi guys.. I've been trying to figure out why my transmission sometimes is smooth as silk, and sometimes it's notchy grindy horrible. (especially the 1-2 shift) Anyhow, here's something for you to try when you're bored:

Once the car is good and warmed up, try doing a slalom motion at a reasonable speed, with no traffic on the road, obviously. e.g., the what you see cars with race cars doing to warm up their tires. The idea being to slosh around the fluid in the transmission, so you want reasonably rapid transisitions. I use the same motions I'd use for a slalom feature on an autoX course.

Whether or not this has solved the problem or it's just coninidental, but I have noticed that my shifting is a lot smoother after this exercise. My hypothesis was that the grinding is caused by the gears/synchros not being properly lubricated. If anyone else has any success with this let me know, or if it doesn't do anything, let me know, too.

Steve
