Crank Pulley Problems

I have a 98 prelude. I've had the same problem re-occur 4 times with 2 differant motors. The crank pulley and bolt for the crank comes loose. It makes a horrible noise and makes my car undriveable. I got my motor replaced for this under warranty. Well the new motor did the same thing. I am selling my car. But I was wondering if anyone else has had similiar problems with their prelude. This problem makes NO sense. I've never heard any one else with a lude having this problem..EVER.

Never had a problem, and I have removed my crank pulley numerous times. Are you sure it was torqued to spec?

I had that same problem, but it was because I forgot to torque down the bolt to specs. My timing was thrown out of wack and my engine shut off. I took everything apart and realigned the crank pulley and timing pulleys that ran off the crank and the engine ran fine after that.

The crank pulley is keyed. Unless you lose the key, it only goes on one way. I would check to see if the key fell out.

Wow, I JUST had this happend 2 months ago and I am selling my car as well. In my case I was at a light making a left turn and noticed some excess vibration from under the hood. When I made the left turn, I heard something come off, my engine slowed down, and I pulled over right away and shut of the motor. The bolt snapped RIGHT off. I have NEVER touched the crank pulley nor has my Honda dealer (i know this cuz i worked at Honda and had a guy do all my maintenance on the side for cash and stood by as he did most of the maintenance). When I asked if it was related to the accident I got into, Honda says no. When I called Honda and asked if this is even possible, they said no. When I asked HOW THE HELL DID THIS HAPPEN, they said 'i don't know'. I'm at 66K miles and after my accident at 60K miles I did notice a very small squeeky sound on the drivers side. When I took it in for a free oil change, the mechanic said "i think it's your shock because it seems to be leaking". I beleived it since my shocks were squeeky when I pressed down on the car.
I asked other mechanics around town and they say that the bolt could come off if overtightend or undertightened.
In my case the bolt holding the crank on the engine cleanly snapped off. Hmmm, this is VERY suspicious now that I know someone with a similar problem.

I was thinking it may not be torqued right...but it was fixed by a HONDA dealership. And if they didn't do it right at BOTH dealers..that's just bull****. Any suggestions?
