Cost to find oil leak

hello all,

i'm thinking about taking my car to the dealer to find where my oil leak is occurring? Does anyone have any idea how much that would run, i just want to know where it is, not for them to fix it. and i don't want a damn guess, i want a for sure answer.

One thing I noticed about my Prelude... if it's a Honda, it's gonna leak oil.

Unfortunately, it could be from a variety of places. If you want to help them out and be assured they're not giving you a line of BS, why don't you get under the car and take like 3 cans of Brakleen and spray down EVERYTHING until you have a majority of all oil and debris gone, then drive it around for a while, avoid dirt roads and puddles and in a couple days get under the car and look to see where the most oil has accumulated near. I once took my car in because it was coming from both left and right sides of the block and it ended up being my rear main seal, crankshaft pulley seal (or whatever it's called that's right there), both camshaft seals and a seal near the oil pump. Needless to say, it was retarded expensive. But these problems can't be diagnosed without the removal of ALOT of covers and plates and a really powerful flashlight. You're going to get charged labor just to find these problems and then on top of that they're going to put it back together and if it's a problem you can't do, you'll be paying double labor for the next guy to go strip it down and replace it and put it back together.

Just my two cents, I was in your same situation like 6 months ago.

Good luck though!

P.S. I had to have all those seals replaced because that's what happens when you pay somebody to put together a motor and he ends up installing the seals wrong, they're going to fail. If you don't have a dealer do it where they guarantee their work, make sure that the person you have do it knows what they're doing 100% or can guarantee it.
