cooling plate for 5th gen

i don't know if you guys have seen these for the 4th gen.. but i thought it would be bad ass to get one for the 5th gen.. i've seen them on the s2k and i like

this one guy in chicago was thinking about making them for differant cars and i asked about the 5th gen lude.. he told me to see if there was any interest and then he'd think about it

here's the 4th gen link

http://preludeonline.com/showthread....wpost&t=130669

this isn't for a sale or anything.. i just told the guy that makes them that i would see if there was any interest.. he didn't give me a price yet and so i'll ask him about that on thursday

is there anything else you guys or gals want me to ask him? i just figured that they would all come out polished or at least brushed aluminum.. who knows.. just seeing what you peeps want

well... considering he has some for the 4th gen already.. i doubt it'll be hard for him to make the 5th gen design... my main question is.. what do you guys want me to ask him.. like if he'll powercoat or polish or etch something.. i mean.. i don't know if all you want is the polished piece of metal.. i know cf would be cool but i don't think that'll happen

also.. what kinda of prices are "fair" just so that i can ask him if he can make it in a bulk package and then do a group buy and see what kind of discount can be given

hell.. since npm is coming up.. i guess prices can go down even more due to me carrying however many pieces it is to the npm and therfore cutting out the shipping which i'm sure is goign to be something like $5-$10

when i see him on thurs.. i'll see if he's done with the 4th gen piece and i'll try to take pictures to show the product.. i guess that'll be a better gauge to see the quality and craftsmenship

I am definitely interested in this, anything to reduce my CF hood's tendency to "flutter" at high speeds.

brushed aluminum would be cool as well as powdercoating...not interested in polished. id have to see the pics before i could think of a reasonable price. i know arc's titanium panels run for like $175-200 so it would have to be a bit lower than that.

honesty.. i don't think it'll go over the $75 mark with shipping.. but don't take my work on that.. i'm just saying.. cf ones for the s2k run around $120 on sale they run under $90

like i said.. this guy can produce the product.. i don't know how many and how cheap.. i'll find that out on thursday.. i also will ask him about powdercoating but to my knowledge, he would rather just keep the price down and let the buyer do what they want

i like the brushed alum look because of it's ease to clean.. when you get a nice sheet of polished alum.. wiping it will give it tons of hair line scratches and those are a ***** to get out.. for the show people at least

Ditto, plus the 5th gen have a bigger gap than that of a 4th gen.

I was thinking to make one out of plexi glass if this doesn't go through

I definitely want one, and would be able to organise a Group buy for Australia... There are a few of us here who want one.

I tried to make my own out of aluminium - we made one for our R32 Skyline and Nissan Stagea, they were easy, but the 5th gen has a strange angle on it, so we gave up....

Would making one in Carbon fibre be a viable option??

i don't think the cf is goign to happen.. just because of the cost and time that goes into them.. i'm meeting the maker up tonight and seeing if he can make it for us 5th geners

he said it would most likely be brushed alum look

i don't know anything about making them or how they are made.. but i think he's using plexi for the general design and then using something metal.. but before i get ahead of myself.. i'll try to get all the info tonight and see if he's up to the challenge

i'll try to post up tomorrow what the deal is and we'll go from there..

basically i just needed to tell him that there were people interested in this item and it wouldn't be a waist for him to make say 50 and only 5 people buy it

k.. here's the deal

there is no way on earth to get us a cooling plate like teh 4th gen... just way too many bends and too much midifying to make it work..

but before i tuck tail and run.. i will tell you this.. we are working on a complete front grill replacement with a cooling plate

so far we are in the design stage and i can assure you that i will try my best to get at least 50 pieces out there by NPM

so the run down.. if you have a 4th gen and 5th gen right next to eachother as i do.. you'll see the major differance between the cutting involved.. the 4th gen is a straight cut piece while there are many elevation changes in the 5th gen to go from the front support all the way down to the grill

on top of this.. i don't think anybody wants to see the two support pieces that hold the front grill to the radiator frame section.. so making a plate under that would kind of defeat it's purpose

the driver side horn is also in teh way but when my friend and i produce the kit.. i assure you that we will make it so that every nut/bolt/washer will be included for the ease of installment (we'll make a bracket to lower the horn location about 2 inches)

just so that you all know i'm serious about this.. i'm driving around with no front grill because i gave it to him in order to get started on the design

we will make it so no cutting is involved, you can remove it without having anybody knowing that it was there, and you use factory screw locations

he told me that he should have something drawn up by next week and so i will keep you all informed

my main question i guess is.. if a cooling plate requires you to remove the front grill and replace it with something bad ass.. would you do it? or would you put a plate that had so many cuts in it.. it just covers up the areas when you look straight down?

sorry there were no pictures this time.. i mean.. i thought i was goign to be cutting some cardboard and making a test fit... but when you look at the 4th gen and 5th gen.. it's a very differant beast.. probably why it never was made

my main goal is to produce something that can be taken off in the future and the car returned to its "stock" setting or look

It is possible to make one. I have my template here, it is doable..

Anyways - I don't mind, but it depends on what goes in the girill - I LOVE my USDM honeycomb grille, and I detest the AUDM stock boring slotted plastic one... so it depends on what goes in the gap

Hwever, I am open to ideas, and still want one

He heh, I've been driving around without my front grill for like a year now . . . . Took it off at some point & lost one of the bolts, and never bothered with it again.

hehehe... that's awsome.. it feels a little wierd.. like something is missing.. not to metion only one of my headlights has an hid bulb and the other is a regular street glow bulb

as far as the grill goes.. it's hard to explain in words.. and so once my friend gets working on it a little more.. i'll take pictures to show you what i'm talking about.. and if that point the intrest drops.. then we'll call it a day.. but if you like what you see, we'll continue the project and just see where it goes

I would be interested in one as well... I want to run out and look at the car and see how hard it would be to make on up.... But there is NO way that i'm going out there right now after the day at work that i had and besides the fact that it is arround 10° outside.... Brrrr...

I will look into making a tempplate if that will help your friend out. I have access to a few different types of CAD programs and i think that i can "figure" one of them out.

Are ALL talking about

RADIATOR SHROUD

I made that thing a long time ago even posted that on PO here as well. The reason why i never went through with making them is cause when i offered to make them for people for 50 bucks including shipping in brushed aluminum everyone was all up for it... but then the usual PO syndrome came about... --the can you make it cheaper and can i see pics and can i pay you in a 3 weeks deal.

so i said screw it and didnt bother making them for anyone other then myself and a one for a friend.

Also.. there was only 2 bends in it... but do to the fact that our front grill and hood latch are in such a weird way, the shroudh had to have a few holes in it.
For the most part it was doing its job and i noticed that when it rained less rain/water/air woudl come between the shroud and the hood.
