Cold air or short ram?

Hey, I was just wondering what type of intake would be better I got a 98 prelude base manual and I'm looking at getting an intake really soon. Just want to get peoples opinion on what type of intake is generally better and good for the price, thanks.

I'd go with the JDM Type S Intake, personally.

Cold Air Intakes take in cold air from the wheel well, and generally produce gains in mid to high RPM's. Unless you normally drive around shifting above 4 or 5k RPM, the Cold Air isn't going to do too much for you in terms of function. Also, if you live in an area that gets a lot of rain, road debris, or both, then that won't suit the application too well either if it's a daily driver.

As for the Short Ram, the gains with them are usually not as high, but they are concentrated in the engine bay and don't have any of the condition related drawbacks. There's nothing wrong with a Short Ram, but judging by every spreadsheet I've seen of intakes being dyno'd and what not, the JDM Type S is the only one to make much of a gain at all (no intake is going to give your car a big increase in power however).

But hey that's just my take. I'm sure plenty will disagree.

It should be noted that other than the noise, you will not feel anything with your 'butt dyno'.

This has been discussed more times than any topic ever discussed. Search please.

Type S only works if you're using the oh so little OEM throttle body, doesn't fit over anything larger. An intake is seriously like the smallest mod you can do that hardly produces any noticeable power. If you want to really do an intake then get into changing the manifold and throttle body.
