im by no means an expert but i think it seems like it may be an issue with the contact between the flywheel, clutch disc and the pressure plate while theyre engaging. doesnt it seem funny to you that the noise is only while the clutch is engaging but not while fully engaged? to me that makes it seem like those three components arent in good alignment but when the clutch is fully engaged, the pressure is strong enough to hold them all together tightly. maybe the flywheel needs resurfacing or its warped. maybe the friction material on the disc is almost gone. anyway i think its likely to be one or more of those 3 components contributing to your noise.

Hey! I hope you guys are still around!

leftbrain99 I googled my clutch noises and came across this thread. I'm a member or TsxClub and own a TSX (Same drivetrain as the Accord in your linked Youtube Video); however, I'm experiencing the same problem as you are. It's The OEM clutch making the noise in 1st gear mostly uphill when engaging the clutch (it's more noticeable when riding the clutch slightly). I do not hear anything else in other gears. Did you ever get that resolved??

Thanks!!

Sounds similar, but I get it in pretty much every gear. Other than that, our symptoms sound identical. I have not come to any conclusions. I'm thinking it's all bark and no bite. Until I come across a symptom other than noise, I'm not going to go to the trouble of dropping the tranny. I'm keeping an "eye" on that rear main seal, though. One day, I may decide to go ahead and replace that and check out the clutch mechanism at that time.

I hope your noise doesn't turn into a problem. Keep me posted if it does, though.

Thanks Brain!

Yea I really don't know what the problem may be. The clutch is not slipping (I did several stall test). The noise is only in first gear. I start out in 2nd and no sound present. Can it be the gearbox? Bearings? It's been like this well over a year and few months ago I decided to change the clutch and ordered CM FX300 clutch and CC flywheel. Now I really don't know if I should change it yet since my OEM clutch still grabs well. It's a little waste of money to throw out something that may still be ok.

I get this sound in the mornings only when I first start the car up though, after that it is fine. It happens every morning and it doesn't get louder or quieter its the same each time.

I didn't install the clutch kit yet. It's still sitting in my room.....I don't know if I should do it yet since I'm not 100% convinced it's the clutch. Do you think it's due to lack of lubrication? But wouldn't that cause the noise every time the clutch fork moves?

When I was investigating this, I noticed that much of the lower engine area was caked with oil/grease/whatever. I finally got sick of that and cleaned it out, top and bottom. That's when I noticed that my driver-side outboard CV boot was throwing grease. I repacked the boot and replaced the bands, no more grease. And since then, the clutch noise has slowly lessened to nothing. I don't think I've heard it in weeks. So, is it possible that this grease thrown all over the engine bay could have leaked onto the clutch and could that have contributed to the noise?

it seems very unlikely that grease from a cv joint could even get into the bell housing and on the clutch but i guess anything is possible.

if the noise has been gone for weeks and the clutch seems to function properly, lets just pretend this problem never happened.
