cluster doesnt show what gear im in

I got a 97 base prelude auto. When I start my car up in the morning it shows what gear I'm in on the cluster but after about 5 mins it goes blank and doesn't show what gear I'm in and same when in sports shift. Any help

hit the gas, if you go forward you are in forward, if you go backwards you are in reverse. if your car goes WAAAAAHHHHHH youre in neuch.

then rip it out and put in a 5 speed

Would it be cheaper to do a auto-mani swap or just sell and get a 5 speed

9 times out of 10, selling it and buying another car is the cheaper route. Which is why my advice is pretty much always the correct advice.

are the gears shifting fine? do you notice any difference from the way it was before this happened?

mates, I dont see why he needs to get a trans swap. because of a light bulb not working? comon now

I know that 5th gens auto is garbage, but shouldn't he wait until it starts slipping at least?

A car with a slipping transmission sells for a lot less than a car with a functional transmission. You're not a woman, so quit trying to fight logic.

OP, fix the bulb and sell the POS immediately.

yeah but if one wants to keep his car, he can always wait until the auto slips to hell and then just do a swap. Many Luders have sentimental attachment to their rides and sometimes it's hard to just get rid of her and get a new one.

It's like this, If you love hitting this hot pus*y, and you been tapping that for a while and never had a problem with her, wouldn't you wait until she slips up or does something messed up before moving on to some other pus*y?

When my car shifts into 2 gear the rpm jumps a little and then goes into 2nd. But all other gears shift smooth

I can speak from experience on this...I drove around with a failing transmission for almost an entire year, I bought it like that. I remember when I first got it, it was the same as yours right now, one gear jumped a bit, but the rest were fine. It eventually got worse and worse to the point where I was driving it and it wouldnt shift into one of the gears. It was either second or third, but the gear got stuck and I would have to skip over it and shift into the next gear.

As for selling, I tried selling it with a "failing" transmission (was still driveable, but the problem was noticeable to a first timer driving my car)...I had 2 people come and look at it and drive it, but I guess they werent seriously interested. YES it will be harder to sell like that, unless it is VERY cheap, hence how I got mine People don't want to buy cars with problems...

I am not saying you have a bad transmission or will need to replace it, but thats how mine started out. Keep in mind that transmission rebuilds are pretty expensive. Luckily I had a friend score me a bit of a deal. I also contemplated doing the 5 speed swap, but it was a lot easier for me just to fix it and since I didnt plan on keeping the car much longer, that was the path I decided to take.
