Checking engine light, but my D4 light is blinking instead of service engine light

Hey guys. I'm checking my engine code using this website http://www.hondaprelude.to/articles/...ck_engine.html. It says your service engine light should blink, but my service engine light just stays on and my D4 light (automatic) makes 8 short flashes instead of the engine light. What's wrong with my car?

Oh and like my other post states. The engine will just randomly shut off while I'm in park and switching gears and a weird smell comes out of the vents. It almost seems like there's a short cause it sounds like a short and the power seems to flicker. Could this be why my engine code is coming up all messed up too?

Normally I don't do this anymore but.......I went through the Helm manual and found the diagnosis for your problem....8 short flashes means that there's a problem with the Shift Control Solenoid Valve B.
The possible causes are as follows:
  1. Disconnected shift control solenoid valve B connector
  2. Short or open in shift control solenoid valve B wire
  3. Faulty shift control solenoid valve B
There's a series of steps you must execute to figure out exactly where the problem is.
www.HelmInc.com <- go there and buy the manual, it is worth a TON more than what you pay for it.
Good luck.

WOW thanks man, but what exactly is the solenoid valve B? Covered by warranty right? And what would cause my solenoid valve B do go faulty?

Oh one more thing. THere's only a 97-99 helms manual. Is the 2001 supplement what I need for the complete set or what am I supposed to buy for a 2001 prelude?

As others have stated, the supplement is not necessary.
