Check engine light for SS?

Today I was running at the NASA Autocross in Marina and was driving my car pretty hard/incorrectly (I guess). I kept it in first most of the time throughout the first couple runs and noticed that after doing this a lot (also while shifting from 2->1 on some turns for power), my car would bounce off 5.2K on the tach. It was as if there was a rev limiter there. Later on, the check engine light came on and I spent the remaining runs mostly in 2nd....but it still let me go up to 8 in first for the most part.

There wasn't anything leaking and no visible damage to the engine when I stopped.....and after resetting the ecu, the light wasn't on anymore. I was just wondering if this has happened to any of you and if this is normal as a result of hard driving? I changed my atf fluid 2 days ago if that helps any.
