CEL Problem! Help Please! Techs Please Read!

I just bought a 98 Prelude Base AT and am new to Hondas. it keeps throwing a p0401 code for egr valve insuficcient flow. I put in a new valve and it keeps throwing the code so maybe i need to clean the system or change the sensor? Along with the egr code it keeps throwing codes p0700 for trans. sys. control malfunction and p0740 for tcc circuit malfunction whether i'm in D4 or Tiptronic. The only problem with the car is when i drive for an hour on the highway then come to a complete stop then start going again it will jerk and hesitate then when its going it shifts to 2 3 4 fine. I read that is symptoms for the egr valve getting stuck open. Also it seems like it dont have alot of power going up hills and has bad gas milage. The shifting seems fine so anybody please help me figure out what is wrong wit the car and if I have a bad transmission?

Wow dude, you are the perfect example of someone experiencing trans problems. Yeah man, do some research. The auto trannys on the 5th gen prelude fail prematurely.

The egr code coming back is the result of your egr ports in your intake manifold being clogged up. Do a search for "egr port".

There is plenty of information on this site for both of your issues, us the search feature at the top of the screen. Just type in "ss trans", "triptonic", "auto trans", "auto", "trans fail".........something man. There is an abundance of info.

The AT's are horrible about this.

You will have to clean the EGR ports to get rid of the CEL.

i encountered the same problem, after cleaning out the egr and ports, i did a valve adjustment, and the cel went away.
