Catalytic Converter and P0420 code

Hi guys,
I have been getting the P0420 code (catalytic converter) for quite a while. I just haven't had time to fix it. I live in CA, and my plan was to buy a 50 state legal cat for about $300 (direct fit). I did some research and found threads about cleaning a clogged cat with bleach. I also found out that other factors such as EGR valve, exhaust leak, O2 sensor could cause the P0420 code. One thing that I am curious about is every time I reset my ECU so that the code would go away, the P0420 code only comes back after ~50 miles of driving. If the cat is bad, wouldn't the code show up right away after I reset the ECU? Any ideas?
Thanks

its your cat, stop tryngto come up wit anythign else. If it was the o2 sensor the code would be different and the fix more expensive.

If you are interested and in need i just replaced my stock exhaust with cusotm one. I have an exhasut that has highflow magnaflow cat(only on car for about a year) new flex pipe, and stock piping with stock header and magna flow muffler. Price is very negotiable.
