Carbon fiber hood..

Everyone keeps talking about a carbon fiber hood but is the weight savings really worth the $500 for a good carbon fiber hood? Or do you think most people do it mainly for the aesthetic
purposes? how much weight do you actually save?

aesthetic purposes mostly. I really can't justify someone spending $500 to save 20 lbs. Unless you are a serious drag racer or autocrosser, it's mostly aesthetics.

I put one on my last lude due to stupid fockers that bent up my stock hood. On my 5g, someone has already sat in the middle of it, and put an UUUUGE dent in it. So when i have some extra cash(hahaha), cf is on the way.

you can't really think about getting a Cf hood like that....its more like why would someone get a bodykit or wing? a CF hood looks good and has purpose. may not be much. but still something.

its only 20lbs you save? that is definitely not worth $400-500 for me

my FI hood tips the scales at 14lbs, and my stock came in at 45lbs. when you consider the $$/HP ratio, it's not too different from the lbs./HP ratio...worth it or not is as always...up to you.

I just had one put one my black Lude today. I think it looks pretty sweet, but it's not nearly as noticible as it is on other colors. It's kinda subtle...you won't notice it until you're almost up on it.

I got mine mainly for aesthetics, but there is a pretty good deal of weight savings there.

I feel for ya. Someone backed up into my hood and it left a crease. It was most likely a truck that backed into it. I bought a CF hood instead because it would cost more to fix the stock hood.

I've had one on mine for about 1 1/2 years now. I like how pretty much only people who know what to look for notice it, plus all the people who don't know don't notice.

BTW-LuDeS-
I had damage to my stock hood which would have cost $300-400 to fix. I had extra money at the time so I went for the CF.

Yeah thats what i would have done too... if my hood ever got ****ed up I would def get a CF hood but to spend 400 to replace a perfectly fine hood is just money i could spend better elsewhere.

Sorry I don't have any pics.

It's only noticeable from close up though. My hood pins give it away before the CF does.
