As long as it latches solidly, no.

I did put the aerocatch pin/latches on my car because I didn't like the way the (thin) metal hook latched with my OEM mechanism. It always felt "loose" to me. Even though they don't recommend it, the aerocatch pins are so solid I eliminated the OEM mechanism altogether.

Not sure what your concern is about winter (?)

i have read a couple bad stories ending with a lost hood on an interstate. I always tells omebody if you're going to invest$400+ bucks on a hood, might as well invest 20 on some pins.

+1

People say you don't have to but I wouldn't chance it.

Not only do I take the hood off the road for the winter, I use the entire car as a storage device for the hood, all winter long

Those aerocatch pins were stoopid expensive but they really do a nice job. Very scary to install -- measure about a dozen times before ripping into the hood with a jigsaw. Also, I had to fabricate brackets for the pins.

You can sort of see them in this pic (license plate is shopped...I don't have a plate that says "vtec" )

because the stock latch sometimes doesn't latch that well with aftermarket hoods.

Also they are lighter and can fly up. That's why I would never run a CF hood w/o using hoodpins
