Car Wont Start - Turn key to start it and it goes dead

I have a question that may be as simple as the battery but i am not sure that it is.

I get in the car and turn it to position 2.. so i have full lights radio comes on etc. I then turn the key to start it and all electronics shut off but the car never attempts to start up at all. just goes totally dead. If i hold it, the car will act like it lost battery power and the radio and everything resets. If i release it, the lights will fade back in on the dash and look just fine.

Do you think it is the battery or something else?

I never hear anything from the car trying to turn over at all. It is just silent.

Mine does the same thing occasionally. Though mine doesn't slowly come back on. I just give a wiggle on my battery terminals and I'm on my way. I would get your battery tested. Any auto parts store should do it for free.

Yep, clean the battery terminals first.
