do you have the proper socket for the head bolts? I believe that they are 12 point if I am not mistaken. Someone please confirm that.

Oh yeah there is also a bracket on the underside of the manifold that you have to remove. You have to get under the car and look straight up right in the middle to see it. If you are following the helms then you will cover these steps but just incase.

chapter 6 page 24+ of the service repair manual

this provides all the information you will need if you are going to do this yourself. There are links on the site that you can find the manual.

So maybe I can help out by telling about my progress with the same issue. I pulled the head and the valves/pistons are perfect. The shop I took it too was just trying to bend me over with a 2k estimate to fix everything. Have you pulled the head yet to assess the damage?

Im in the process of putting the t belt back on. Id recommend the manual tensioner conversion while you're at it. So far Im only out $600 for brand new seals all around, water pump, t belt, manual tensioner kit, and a shiny new header/test pipe.

It seems that in these tough economical times most shops are trying to get every dollar out of people, so Id like to hear how things are coming along for you at this point. I can help you through it since we are both T mcs and all lol.
