Car momentarily dies and automatically restarts

I've noticed over the past few weeks while driving that my Prelude ('98 w. 70k) will momentarily cut out. I'll be driving (doesn't matter what gear (5sp)) and the engine will die, tach will drop, radio shuts off, etc but then will restart. The cut out is brief most of the time (a second or less). It happened again this morning and for the first time, the CD ejected and the radio needed the anti theft code. The cut out this morning was the longest one yet (more than 1 second) which is why I'm assuming the radio reset. Everytime, the car resumes automatically; I don't need to turn the key to start it again.

The car had the ignition recall 10 years ago. I'm the second owner and have owned it for just over 10 years and it's been a bullet proof car until this crept up.

Any ideas on what the problem(s) could be?

I don't think it's your ignition because if it was, it wouldn't turn the power off to the entire car. It wouldn't cause the radio to lose power to the point of where the radio needs the code to be put in.

Check the power connections to the under hood fuse box and well as you battery terminals. Also check the big fuses blocks and relays under the hood.

I have a good feeling your issue will be found there.

My car does the same thing! Did you ever find the solution? Is this a common problem with this car or am I just lucky?

This used to happen to me sometimes when I let off the gas. Check to make sure you battery terminals are tight if they are then the brushes on your alternator might need to be cleaned. I got alternator rebuilt by auto electrician for 50 bucks and it solved the problem.
