Car left me in the cold :(

So i'm headed home from a weekend in san antonio, and my car crapped out... So I got honda to tow my car to Gunn honda here in san antonio. Today honda lifted my car and there is a hole in my transmission caseing. They told me that my warrenty might be void because of the aftermarket things i have on my car...

This was highway driving at about 75 to 80mph (on cruse control)...

when i move the car there are clunking noises and metal on metal sounds...
but once i push the clutch in the noise goes away. It will only goes into 1st 4th and reverse.

What do you think could do that?? I have an 01 5 speed.

mods listed in sig

I need help soon thanks

jesse

So they say your mods caused the tranny to fail?

They are some aftermarket warranty laws check sema and some other organizations. Or pay Honda then take them to court after they fail to honor your warranty.

Well, with a hole in the trans I would assume that the thing locked up and blew pieces out. Or something punched a hole in the case & damaged the internals. Either way this is not something that should have gone unnoticed.

No clue.. it makes sense that honda wouldn't cover you since the clutch was replaced unless you actually had it installed by honda*shrug*

What symptoms?!?! A hole in the trans? No, there's no way to know what caused it. What is certain is you are going to need a new transmission. The one you have is crap. Once the tranny is off they will be able to tell you if the clutch was at fault (likely it is not). They may be able to pinpoint the problem in the trans itself, but probably won't bother.

Aside from the clutch, there is NO WAY IN HELL your mods caused the problem- this is just a typical dealer cop-out for not understanding mods ro wanting to work with/around them.

The likely cause is a failure internal to the transmission caused by a defect or your or a previous owner's shifting. Lot of hard hard shifting can bend & eventually break shift forks (could cause this) or repeated grinding end up fracturing a gear.

Edit: you'd have to be VERY rough on a transmission (or a previous owner) to do this.

Thank You that's the kind of answer I was looking for marcucci !!!!
Oh and thanks to everyone else that has replied!!

I never tend to shift hard... I have calmed down a lot since my younger years... The car was least out to a bank as a company car... then I bought it and put 26k in the 1 year that I've had it. And I have only been to the track 3 or 4 times since Ive own the car and I hit vtec only about once or twice a week... all in all i usually just cruse with my car.

I have a video but I don't know how to post it up...

Give me a couple and I will try to post up...

Jesse

Wow, that is a mighty big hole! Check your warrantly rules, etc. Then ask to speak to the technician that worked on it, and ask with the service rep close by, "How would the mods on my car cause this failure?"
I'm pretty sure the tech will tell you what broke in the tranny and that it was a defect or something from age/abuse. Elaborate with the serivice rep, and try to reach a civil agreement that your mods didn't cause this.

Someone on PO had a problem with the infamous AT trannsmission and the dealer gave them the run around, so after paying for the work the owner of the car took Honda to court. Honda then paid out to re-emburse the person instead of showing up for court.

the video is actually longer but It messes up during the transfer from computer to photobucket. sorry about that...

They havn't taken the tranny apart because the warrenty company (honda care) sent an adjuster to inspect the tranny without taking it apart. They don't want to pay for breaking apart the tranny and having to replace it... Instead they inspect it(which is cheaper) and from that determine whether or not to warranty the tranny.

So as of yet I have gotten no word... but the tech at honda said it dosn't look good... My lawer is in contact with both Gunn Honda and Honda Care. So I hope they take this seriously...

Update... Well they denied me warranty for my transmission... so now i'm going to take my car to another honda and try to figure out what made it fail... If it was not the clutch or flywheel then we are going to take them to court...

Oh btw honda never opened the transmission... They just inspected it from the outside. Plus they took a look at the modifications i had done.

In the mean time I'm looking for a m2b4 tranny to replace my broken one... Does anyone have any suggestions where to look??

So far I've tryed Hmotorsonline and JDM$hit...

the m2b4 tranny is the one with the lsd right... Will it bolt up without a problem??
And will i through any cell codes??

BTW this is a real pain...
