Car feels stronger on a full tank... anybody else get this?

If you saw my other thread you might know that I'm getting low power and poor fuel economy and am trying to trouble shoot.

Noticed the other day that when I filled the tank the engine was stronger--not normal, but definitely better than before I filled it nearing empty.

Is this normal, or could it be a sign of something wrong in the fuel system: fuel pump on its way out, FPR, etc.?

Could mean you have a lot of junk in your tank. Try replacing the fuel filter sometime. I haven't seen your other thread, so I'm just going from this one.

weird. i get that feeling when the fuel lamp comes on; when the gauge is at the extremest of lows.

i get normal power back when i full up to anything above reserve though. my guess is the ecu cuts fuel injection and controls it so you don't burn too much before you can fill up.

but that doesn't help you with the problems you described.

Knock sensor would be a good idea judging from your thread.

There is also a filter on the fuel pump inside the fuel tank.

Gasoline weighs about 6 lbs/gallon so after fill-up you're carrying more weight.

Immediately after you fill up your gas is nice and frosty cold from being underground, that may have a little bit to do with it

Solid, already replaced the KS.

guys, I'm wondering whether any of you normally experience this, so the answer sounds like not really.

This suggests I should go ahead and get the fuel pressure tested, I guess...

I always start with the common stuff first, ignition parts, sensors, etc. After that you move to the crazy stuff.

He gets MORE performance, not less when it is full.. so that isn't helping him

It could be cooler, depending where he is. In florida, except at the latest hours, the gas is actually hotter because it is stored underground. You get more gas per fillup if you fuel up when it is cold, but I have never heard of it giving performance.. it is not that much more dense.

I have the opposite problem, my car gets better on the lower side of the tank.. I would consider some other things were I you. Where do you go get gas, same place every time? After fillups, the gas is always well mixed with the water that may be in it.. but after it has had time to separate, you may notice issues.

I would also consider other factors.. do you fill up at the same time every day? If you were driving on a cool morning after fill up, the air would give you a noticeable performance increase, or does in florida. There could be outside factors, especially since you handled all of the obvious potential problems.

No kidding? I thought you would understand without a full explanation.

well I bought my 01 prelude brand spanking new whenever I filled up the tank or topped it off which I tried not to do. The car feels really peppy like its ready to run. Espicially when I topped it off but lost its feel after a gallon or so. My car still does feel significantly diffrent from below half tank and 3/4 or almost full. I have about 87,000 miles right now. Maybe its because when you are almost full your fuel pump sits in gasoline keeping it cooler(since it rests on top of your gas tank) making it work more efficently.

Haha I think it's all psychological really. You feel good when your car has a full tank...nothing but good thoughts.

i need to bury a tank in my yard and fill it with as much gas as i can before prices go back up.

I'm afraid that is incorrect... unless the fuel is so far underground that it's close to the inner core of the earth, it is always cooler below the surface. Don't believe me? Dig a 20 ft hole, put a concrete box in it, then bury yourself in. I guarantee you'll stay cooler than those walking above you

This is also a popular misconception. Gas is always sold by the gallon and no matter how cold or hot, it's still one gallon. If it was sold by weight, this may be relevant
