Car dies, starter crank, car still no start

UPDATE October 15, 2004:
Honda called me today at 0715. The advisor was saying the key was not programmed. If the key was not programmed why would the starter crank?? Idiot. And then he said Oh maybe its another problem. Idiot.

Background of vehicle:

2001 Honda Prelude Type SH
72671 miles on the OD
bought used at approx 65500 miles
No reported accidents/problems from CarFax
VIN number was checked for any recalls/potential problems - clean
I do regular service maintainence at Honda

Clutch ball bearing problem 1 month after recieval - replaced with new clutch, flywheel and ball bearing assembly (Funny thing is, I started having the clutch problem in October too )

Now approx 1 year from above problem, I have the following problem:

Scenario:

I was driving home today and then I saw people crossing the street ahead of me. I was using engine braking in 2nd gear. I tried to add some gas but no gas would flow through. Car is still running. I appear at the crosswalk where more people are crossing and when I stop, the car dies very subtly (not suddenly but that word would work too).

I thought I stalled. I turned the key to the off position, and then tried to start it. It cranks but the car won't start. Ok let's try this again. Still no luck. Let the car glide to the side of the road so that traffic could pass. Tried starting the vehicle again. No luck. Same thing.

Waited approximately 1.5 hours for the tow truck. The car is now sitting at the Honda dealership that I goto for my services.

Cliff Notes For Teh Uber Lazy:
Car slowly dies while still in motion. Completely dies when I came to a stop. Turned key to off position, tried to start, cranks but does not start. Repeat process for X amount of times.

Did you check your VTEC fluids? If you run out of that, then your car won't start. Check that first then let me know what's up. Glad I could help!

Sounds electrical to me mang. But it's at the dealer and I'm sure they will figure out what it is.

I actually looked at those.....the ones on the header. They are fine to me. I also made sure my dipstick was in correctly and that my horn was at the correct decible blast.

if the starter cranks... then it's not the key... I say you might have loosened the coil wire or something simple like that... check for spark, then we can look further into it. If I was there I'd do it for you vic

Sounds like something related to the coil to me too.. apparently my car had the same problem before I owned it, and they replaced the coil.

Kind of sounds like you are out of gas (sorry to sound stoopid)...... but it does. Maybe your gas guage is busted? Maybe fuel pump or fuse? Try resetting your ECU. Main Relay failure?

If it runs then dies, that pretty much rules out electrical (it would be shorting out from the start). I'd check your fuel pressure (and fuel pump), fuel filter, and throttle body (might be binding shut when you back off the throttle).

My .02!

I am not out of gas.

1. I filled it full last Thursday/Friday (or early this week...I can't remember but it was within a week).

2. I only drive to school and back home. Less than 10 miles each way. Explain to me how I can possibly be out of gas if there are no leakages or spills on the ground where I park (dry weather conditions)

3. Thus I am not out of gas.

In response to checking the fuel lines and things regarding the fuel area (besides the amount of fuel there), the car is sitting at Honda and so I will probably call my friend (he works there as a mechanic) and ask him to check that.

^^ Whoa there buddy, no need to get defensive..... it was a SUGESTION!!!. How did I know you filled up last Thurs/Fri? My mind reading abilities are a little rusty. Check your fuel pump fuse & fuel pressure then. Also make sure you have spark. Maybe your coil died and it just gave a few weak sparks before it went out (subtle die). Just don't get pissy if you don't like THIS sugestion.

Sorry if I sounded pissed off but I really wasn't. Just stating that I was not out of gas. Sorry for that.
