Can I autocross with this setup: 225/45/17, 17x7.5 +48mm

I'm looking for new wheels and tires. I want something to use for the track, but in 17" size(a little bit of show).

I was looking at the racing hart wheels, 17x7.5 in +48mm offset. I found 225/45/17 tires. Doing some research I found out people rub with this setup, and some modifications are needed. Even if I shave off the rear tab, will I have rubbing problems on hard turns, such as those encountered during autocross?

If I'll have any rubbing, I'll go with 215/45/17 with a 17x7" wheel. But I really like that 225 tire size

no but you will rub n a hard turn because they are too big for the well....i think 225/40 is the best.....even 215/45 will slow your times down because its more rotating mass...215/40 is the correct sizing for 17...

most important it depends on your drop

I had a hinch that 225/45 was gonna rub. I guess I'm going to have to go with 215/45 on 17x7.5

I wanna use the 215/40, but the Max Load on that size is less then stock 1074Lbs vs 1201Lbs.

The 215/45 would've been ok also, but the Measured Rim Width is 7", and my wheel is 7.5". Although the tire would fit, it would look undersized.

I think it should be OK, although I would go with 215/45/17 to be safe.

I autoX on 17x7.5, +47mm with 215/45/17 Bridgestone S-03s. Of course, my 17x7.5s only weigh 13.9lbs, so weight isn't really an issue for me... 215 width is ideal for 7.5" wide wheels. Just because tires are wider does not necessarily mean that they are going to grip any better...

For auto-x purpose, 17" wheels aren't the best choice for the Prelude. Put the weight difference between 16s and 17s aside for now, let's just look at the available tire sizes.

225/40/17 -- the closest to stock O.D., but Nitto is the only company that makes this size, and sorry to say that Nitto isn't that good.

225/45/17 -- great tread width, but O.D. is too big.....that's about 1" over the stock O.D.. Your gear ratio would suffer and you'll not get good acceleration from these.

215/45/17 -- IMO, a little too narrow for Prelude, and the O.D. is still larger than stock.....about 5/8" over the stock O.D. I would stay within the stock O.D., max would be 1/4" over but that's the limit.

215/40/17 -- I won't even recommend them for street use, just look at the Max. Load rating on them (1074 lbs vs. 1201 lbs for stock), way too low. The front wheels of the Prelude are loaded at close to 1000 lbs each, so you don't have much leverage if you go with this size tire.

225/45/16 -- best choice, tread width is great, tire side wall isn't too short nor too tall, and just slightly smaller than stock O.D., good for acceleration.

225/50/15 -- also great choice, tread width is great, O.D. is even smaller than 225/45/16, however the side wall might be too tall, easier to roll over to the side wall under hard cornering.

Anyways, if you're serious about auto-x and want to win, go with either 16s or 15s. But if you're just doing auto-x for fun and winning is NOT a matter for you, go with whatever you like, 17s, 18s, or even 19s.

16's look too small, and 17's look just right. Its not like I autocross for competition everyday. Just for fun.

How bad will it be if I get 225/45/17?. The sidewall is almost as thick as the stock tires, in additional to the 17" wheel.
