Cams and flywheel

I was thinkin of throwin a set of cams in my 97 sh, and was wantin to know how aggressive i can go in regards of cams on a stock bottom end, and also i wanna do a lightweight flywheel, and i want to know what's the lightest flywheel i can install, that won't hurt the motor, if it will at all.

Please search.

You can install some pretty aggressive cams but if that's all you want to do, it's kind of a waste.

You can buy a 8lb flywheel and be fine.

If you're running a stock displacement engine, with a stock redline, than having longer duration higher lift cams is just silly. Now if you stroked her out, and are trying to rev her to 9k and beyond then sure by all means. You might gain a few horses but the price and work wont justify the gains. You have to take advantage of camshafts, otherwise your wasting money, and gas. And yes 8lb flywheel is fine. i have one in my 2000 base (8lb fidenza) no problems what so ever. once you go lightened you never go back.

Well what other options do i have, without messin with the bottom end, i just wanna give it a little more pep, cause eventually i'm plannin on droppin a jdm h22 in the car, and then swappin parts that i can, and sellin the ones i can't. Either way i'll build the motor that's not in the car. I've already got the skunk2 intake manifold, cai, exhaust and my car is converted to obd-1, with a tune as well.

^well if you are going to do that, just wait and buy everything and install on the engine.

It's a waste and obviously you want to spend money so it's better to do it outside.

Yeah exactly. Save your cash because in the long run you are spending more money and will be wasting your time. I don't know why you would want the JDM swap theres nothing wrong with your engine at all. I woudn't do a swap that costed thousands just for an extra 20hp it is not worth it unless your engine is blown. It's so much simpler to have the engine first and build on the engine that way you never know the JDM engine might be crap too or maybe it could come with cams already? Just wait and take it easy if you don't listen to us seriously you will be wasting your money, time and our time of course.

well the only reason i wanted the jdm engine, was to be done with the atts, i'm not tryin to fab the plate i need for the intermediate shaft, and all that, i just wanna do away with it, it is nice to have, but it's just a hassle, and with the tune i have it's now dead weight. I wouldn't mind havin 2 engines to work with, maybe turbo one, and N/A the other, but i already have a few mods on the car, so i just want what i got to be a bit quicker, nothin impressive but a little bit more fun to drive.

Why are you done with ATTS? That's just weird (unless you were hardcore road racing, I don't see how it's a detriment to your car).

If you spent some money, you could keep your atts.

Dude, no one seriously has two engines and just swaps them out at whim...that's just stupid talk. If you want quicker, just buy some NOS (seriously).
