A/C problemos

i looked for a while on this topic but every scenario seems to be different..
Im moving to Arizona for college and need my A/C fixed quick.

I recharged it and it was cold for about 20 seconds. I dont think it would be my expansion valve cause that wouldnt even blow cold for even a little would it??
could that mean compressor?
Im just worried about the fact that it DID blow cold for a little..
What does that mean?

my 2 cents... you got a leak some where. Oh and I heard stories of people dieing doing freon installs.. hope you know what you are doing.

Heck, I'll hijack a thread. Since the OP didn't respond to the question in 3 weeks, I'll answer since I have the same problem. 93 degrees ambient temp. Low side reading is ~50 psi. High side reading is ~75 psi. The low high side reading makes me think it is a faulty expansion valve. I haven't gotten hold of a vacuum pump to check for leaks. I wonder what else I can look for before then or if I can be fairly certain it's the expansion valve. Do I need to replace the drier, too? These parts aren't exactly cheap. I also hate to start replacing parts and recharge only to have to do it again for something else.

For the record, my AC blows cold, just not as cold as it used to, and while idling on hot days, it is definitely not enough to cool sufficiently.
