A burning issue
Alright I'm a newbie on the forum, and I know there are a ton of posts and forums about the H22's infamous ability to burn oil. But I have never seen a post quite like the problems I'm having. Everyone talks about there being black residue on their bumpers from the oil burning, thankfully, I don't have that problem. Bought my 98 lude 18 months ago with 98k miles. It now has 114k on it and yes I have driven it hard. I had the timing belt changed at 107k since the person before me had never had it done. At that time, I noticed that oil was mysteriously vanishing. No smoke from my exhaust, no residue on my bumper. Then it stopped. Now recently it routinely burns through a quart or more every 600 - 800 miles. But there's never any smoke. It's like it burns outside the engine? I can smell it burning if the car is sitting idleing at a red light after it's been running for a while. When I look under the hood there isn't a huge mess anywhere, there's a little bit of residue near the thermostat. Any ideas where to look for problems?
