broken imobilizer unit

hey guys i have a 97 lude and i broke my immobilizer unit and was wondering if i got another one would it work or would i have to go to the dealer to get a new key programmed

thanks guys any input would great

You will have to go to the stealership and get an new immoblilizer and the master "red box" key that comes with it. Hope you have some extra cash sitting around, those parts are expensive.

**** that sucks and there is no way that if i grab a immobilizer box from another car they can program me a key at the dealership?

Dont fact me on it but i believe the key,immob,and ecu are all connected. People say you need the red key to get keys made but my honda dealer did it with my black key so you need atleast a key that goes with the unit. Either way your gonna have to go to the honda place and just take it like a champ in some form. How do you break one anyway? Curious so i dont do it.

Lol, been here, cried hard....then spent the money to fix it. Get over it, you will need a new immobilizer unit and red key and it cost allot.
