I got a check engine light yesterday on my car, so i took it to Honda. Well it turns out it needed a new air idle control vave. What the hell is that? It would have been about $500 to get it fixed. But the guy told me I should get it fix but he also said it wouldn't hurt my engine if I didn't. I decieded to wait on it cause I just spent $465 last week to fix my power steering tank and hoses as well the driver side axle seal. And the this invoice was for $365 for the tune up. Anyone know what this idle air control valve is /does?
i don't knwo if that is what my car is doing but we may have the same problem.
when do you get teh check engine light?
my car gets the light when it is cold. sometimes it won't come on, sometimes it does. if I get it when it's cold, I let it warm up, then I disconnect the battery lead for a couple seconds and reconnect. it clears teh check engine light and my car runs fine.
sometimes at idle my car seems to run funny...the idle isn't as smooth as it should be. if i go back to my tailpipe and look at it, listen to it, it seems to be irregular, sounds like it's missing, or is running rough.
but in the cockpit it seems normal.
the car drives normal. no loss of power, pulls hard in all gears, VTEC works normally.
i wonder if my car has that same problem.
i checked my engine code and it said it was a misfire code.
what kind of code did you get?

i dont know whats wrong but i just wanted to tell you that insted of disconnecting the battery terminal(to reset your ECU) just pull the clock/radio fuse from the box under the hood its easier but you still have to reset the clock and radio
if you disconnect the battery lead for only a second, you don't lose the memory on the clock or the radio.... I didn't know that until I tried it. if you leave the terminal off for more than a second or two, all that stuff gets reset. you have to put in teh radio code, reprogram the clock, your presets on the stereo...what a pain.
one time I pulled off the negative terminal for a second. put it right back on. then fired teh car up. it reset the engine code, so my car was good to go...AND the radio was still ok. so now I just disconnect for a second. it does the trick.
I hate having the light on...especially since i have an SH. Whenever you get a check engine light on an SH, as a safety precaution, it automatically shuts off ATTS too. So your car then handles like ****. I for one, can totally tell when ATTS is off. I hate it. so I will pull over to reset it if I have to. I gotta have my ATTS working....if it ever broke and coujldn't get it fixed, I'd sell my car. I don't know how guys who have FWD preludes tolerate base models without ATTS.
I have a significant amount of suspension mods and even with all those (and my good tires) when aTTS goes offline, it doesn't handle like it does when ATTS works.

I believe the IAC your refering too sites right in front of your intakemanifold. In thepicture below it should site right at position 10, it also has 2 coolant lines running out of it.
trysome salvage yards, you might be able to find it cheap.
If you want I might be able to find you one? however, they might not sell the IdleAirContol without the intake manifold.
