Boy's I think I might be leaving the club

I 'am interested in the new 3 series bmw 330. what do you guys think. Are they as fast or faster then the lude (5g). They have 240hp. Have any of you raced one before.
thanks

Good luck man...they're sweet. Never raced one, but drove the piss out of one....the car is so well built that it seemed to like the abuse. If I had the choice you have, the lude would be gone too.

the e46 330s have 225hp...i think you're confusing the hp specs with the e36 m3..

wasnt able to race it but drove it... prelude feels more sporty... the bmw shifter and steering wheel feels too mushy... Clutch pedal has no pressure (a baby could push it in)... 330 definitely has more torque and you can feel the difference between the two cars... So if you want a car that handles great and provides above average speed, average amenities and at affordable price go prelude...
If you want a car that has slightly above average handling, above average speed, great amenities and a high price go 330.

Hey dude. My friend got one of these a few months ago. He traded in a 2000 Civic Si, and leased a 330i (www.330i.net is his page, http://webguy.dcaff.com/si is his old page).

It's a very nice car to drive, much more smooth and luxurious than a prelude is. But it's really not something that I'd like to drive all the time. Sometimes, it feels too nice. Maybe I'm more of a "raw" person, who doesn't like leather (I know, I have it), or any of the other extra's that come with nicer cars.

The only "bad" thing I'd have to say, would be the clutch feel, and engagement point. It's a little weird to get used to. There is an aftermarket fix for it, so it's not the end of the world, but just something to watch out for.

If you want, email that guy on www.330i.net , click on his name at the bottom of the front page. Tell him I sent you, and he'll be able to answer a lot of other questions about it for you.

Hope that helps.

-Erik

If it is anything like my friend's 328, it'll be great for driving mad crazy around corners. It handles so well even with the auto-shifter.

It's a great car. My brother's getting one in May, and we took one on a test drive, and it's obviously a BMW, so you can't really go wrong. It just depends on what you plan to do with the car. If you compare it with other stock cars in its class, then I'm pretty sure it'll beat them out pretty easily in everything (especially handling), but if you want to upgrade it, then maybe you should go a different route. I don't think there are as many useful/beneficial upgrades for the 330 that's worth the money....at least engine wise. I heard that going with a lower model would give it a higher potential, with the 330 being tuned pretty well. Suspension wise, I personally wouldn't get a lot of aftermarket products becuase the stock handling is great. As for the engine, it's fast and powerful, but in my very humble opinion, not that much faster than the lude. Put a couple bolt ons and maybe a vafc in the prelude, and it'll be faster than the 330 hands down. But all in all, it's a beautiful car, and if I had the chance to get one, I would.

BMW drivers wouldn't waste the gas racing a Prelude. Besides, neither car is designed for stop light racing- get a V8 with gobs of torque for that.
Can't go wrong with a 330, IMHO!

I might be in the market to buy a new car as well. I'm thinking about selling my 01 Prelude Type SH and my 95 Eclipse GS-T. But my decision may change when I get my car back from the dealership. Whoever, if I do sell my car, I would probably go for a 2002 Suzuka Blue S2000 or I might just get some old school car like a 300ZX or something....dunno for now...

Driven properly the 330 manual can run a mid 14 sec 1/4. The auto just a lil higher. It can beat a CL-S.

why not get the //M3? if you want speed, tossability, and one of THE most fun cars on the road, go for that... otherwise check out the S4 like others have been saying, it might surprise you. hey and while you're looking at the german cars, look at the mercedes C 32 AMG also...

indeed.. the new Z is gonna be one hell of a car, and will most probably be able to out-perform the 330 stock... or even lightly modded.. 280+ hp for $26,000 is not bad at all....
