Bought a 5th gen from BMW dealership

2001 Base, I have a question that I can not figure out... The tranny code is M2Y4. The engine block code says H22. I thought USDM was H22a4 and JDM was only H22... I researched this and It is not making sense.

Any input??

Seems like the previous owner of the car swapped a h22a in and put an a4 tranny in. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong because I'm a nub as these things.

Research work is correct.

What did you pay for the car? Do you feel they misrepresented it as all original?

I paid 8,00 for it. I guess I never really thought of looking when I bought it. It has a 4th gen JDM ECU, so that makes sense why thats there. I still don't 100% believe it though. It definitely only says H22a on it.

Sounds like I need to take it to get the engine re-tuned!

F paying a shop a ton of money to tune it, find someone local that people can vouch for that can do a good street tune.

Ouch, 8 grand for a prelude? Better have less than 70k miles.

And if it's modded, then you seriously got a bad deal. Mods do NOT equal more value added to a car.

Yes, the one in my sig. It was $7500 I looked at the tag in my folder. Anyway I could tell if the block was a euro block instead of a JDM block? The head stamp is P-13 HF-1, this is indicating a USDM head to me..

A JDM block will just be H22a and the year stamp can be found on the head, US engines were H22a1 and H22a4, other #'s at the end will indicate another market, google it for full list.

How many miles did the car have on the odometer? 8k seems high for the going rate of preludes latley.
