BLUE LED CONVERSION II what do you think?????

I Finally had enough time tonight since it was raining to change out the LED's on my AC unit. I was using Radio Shack 2600mcd LED's, but now I changed them out with 5500mcd LED's that I now sell. THe first pic below is of the Radio Shack LED's and the second is after tonights project of changing them out. I will have more pics of the internal parts of the AC unit later on. Here is the comparison what do you think????? you can see how dim the first one is.

Is this the "behind each button" technique, or the "LED cluster in the stock bulb position" technique? Some of the buttons look brighter than others, although that could just be a trick of the camera. I really dig the red LED's for the button indicators, much nicer than green.

All in all, good work I have yet to try anything with my climate control.

nice man, some buttons do look brighter than the other, maybe it's cause not all the LEDs are pointed completely straight forward? It seems that the "A/C" button is pointed to the left a lil, the face blowing is straight forward, the face/feet blowing is angled a lil downward, the feet blowing is pointed who knows where, the feet/window is pointing a tad to the right, and the window blowing is pointing a tad to the left, the recycle air button seems a lil to the left (these are all relative to the camera). Either that or it's just the camera, but other than that good work. How come the defrost button is so dim? I know the defrost button is a different color, but the stock ones still kinda light up the same color.

Yeah it is just a trick of the camera. Just shows you no matter how much you spend on a camera you still cant get perfect pictures. I am using the Canon Powershot S110 Digital Elph. One of the Best and SMALLEST Digital Camera you can get. VERY NICE. It is using the LED behind each button techinque. I do also need to reaim each light now that I look at it closer. It took me about 5 hours to convert. from one to the other. Thanks for the props on the RED indicator lights. I thought it looked nice with the BLUE/RED receiver. Any other comments guys.
The defrost button I just used one of the 3mm red ones like I have for the indicators. I am waiting on my SUPER WHITE LED for the defrost. You cant leave it stock in just that button because the stock light will spead throught the clear diffuser behind the buttons and mess up the blue color of the A/C and recycle buttons so I have to get aa Super WHite LED to put behind it to make the Orange come out. Or just get a SUPER BRIGHT red one to put there and maybe turn it red instead of orange since getting rid of orange is the purpose of this project anyway.

Much better than before Beau.
I read recently that the radio shack ones are known to fail after a relatively short time if driven around their stated maximum power levels. The review was a bit dated though, but I had some fail on me without popping. The failure is not complete but they begin to dim. Also, I wonder if those LEDs you're selling aren't those 15 degree like the Nichia ones. The Hosfelt ones are 30 degree and may not show as much obvious aiming issues.

When doing mine a while ago I noticed how the diffuser/optics where polished behind some buttons and matte behind the others. FYI for those who aren't going to put the LEDs behind each button.

I think Red would do best for the recycle button, but you may have to experiment with different shades to get it right.

I will do a writeup when some of my club mates get off their azz and buy the materials so I can do their cars .Reason I have to wait until then is because I need more pictures for it to make more since.

BTW, Purple is now available, but they get screwy with your eyes because they aren't used to looking at light so close to UV. They used to have some that combined the spectrum of red and blue, but those only partially tricked the eye when looking into the lamp. The new ones don't do this, but they cost the same as blue ones or more.

Very sweet pIOUs... Nice work on the needles too! But us Houston Luders ought to get together to do this. I am definitely down... I've been wanting to do this for a while to match my head unit and indiglos. But if all you Houston dudes are down, I'm down too... we should get together and do this!
