blue interior LED lights: I did it, pics and comments inside.
Well, I kept saying how I was going to do a write up when my LEDs came in, but this damn thing turned out to be a pain in the ass to do, took me the whole day for the damn climate control, and I really didn't feel like taking pics of the internals. And No, i'm not going to open it up to take pics, i had a hard time shoving all the wires in there, and there's a few flaws.
Note, that I did not need to use the write ups that the people had for the climate control, yet they weren't detailed anyway, so yea. I didn't do the cruise/dimmer/moonroof switches yet, but I will next week or somethin, my back hurts. Without further ado, here are my ****ty pictures, and don't comment on my ****ty photography skills, i'm all tired and grumpy and too lazy to learn how to focus before pressing the button. Without further ado, pics:
EDIT: i exceeded the maximum usage from earthlink so i had to send the pics to imagestation. here they are:
3.1 megapixel camera my ass
The true color can never show up on these damn digital cameras... they look a lot better in person.. oh and they're bright as ****, look at the comparison to the stock radio.. so yea, even in the daytime, ur gonna be able to see it.
Oh and if u look at the fan-speed lever thingy, the colors not good cuz i put 3 leds behind it and they're not pointing straight so it sucks.
So more comments:
-Took a longass time, labor included removing climate control, removing the "fiber optic" lenses, soldering, and wrapping with electrical tape, mounting leds to the circuit board behind each button, making everything neat, and some other crap i forgot.
-I see why there's no good write-ups for this, because it's a pain in the ass to do.
-Basically if you don't HAVE to solder, but its much neater and keeps the connections strong.
-If you don't know how to solder, you probably won't be able to do this mod.
-If you want someone to do it for you, i believe you have a few choices:
Asiankidd who will do the climate control for 250 i think
00prelude_tx i forgot how much he'll do it for but its cheaper than asiankidd
pIOUs i dunno if he'll do it for u but he's done it
ludatic (me) i'll do it for 100 bucks, including dimmer/cruise/moon
Yea there's a big price gap between me and asiankidd, but asiankidd has more experience, if you want someone who's done it a few times then go contact asiankidd. I'm not trying to compete, this isn't a business of some sorts, i'm choosing to do this on my free time, so if you don't want me touching ur climatecontrol, i don't care =-P
Oh and thanks to the ppl who answered my questions about the conversions:
Asiankidd
00prelude_tx
pIOUs
if you think that u helped me out and i didn't mention u, then reply here.
-I WILL do a write up, if enough of you want me to, but it will not include actual pics, instead, i'll just draw my ghetto diagrams with ms paint, but it will be detailed enough so you can figure out what to do.

those are pretty bright. when i did my climate control, i just left that little light bulb in there for the hot/cold and fan switch. from the pics i've seen, led's don't light that part up. so i just did the buttons. your's are pretty bright. how many led's did you hook up to one power source?? i did 4. and yes, it is a pain in the ass. it took me all of my 4th of july day off to do. but it's worth it. everyone likes it.

newly uploaded pics 7.26.02
beware of the pop-ups!!
i put 1 behind each button
i left the original bulb in for the temperature control, so its kinda tealish rather than blue, but i put 3 leds behind the fanspeed thing

Yeah after four LEDs in series off one 12v source you begin to underpower them. Something that just came to me a week or two ago is that we are not always working with 12v. You must calculate the resistors using up to 14v as your sources. The highest reading I've ever gotten is 12.89v, but if you overdrive the lamp it will fail sooner, and dim over time.
Nice job Ludatic. Don't forget ton_e69's install pics...he's pretty good with a soldering iron and electronics. Gave me a few ideas I haven't thought of for a clean install. Digicams usually can't see blue or violet too well and it just aproximates the color. If there are a wide variety of colors and light spectrums represented in the picture, the cameras do a better job (photoshop's color correction needs this too). Some of my shots show light in the background to do this. I always use film, but using a friends digicam gave us decent results.
Nice job Ludatic
Thanks for tellingeveryone how hard it is to do, and thats why there is no real write-up. There are many ways to do it.
I charge $150.00 plus $15.00 to ship it back to you. This includes everything.
I also have done a conversion on a Toyota Supra and I used the cotton trick that I mentioned in the last post I did, which allows you to use a smaller degree visible LED and acts as a diffuser to spread the light evenly. I will post pics as soon as I get them

ah yes ton_e69's pictures. i didn't need/use his tactics, cuz i didn't do those switches yet, but i read over it, i'm probably gonna avoid filing it down and make it so i can go back to stock if i ever need to.

i didn't need to use cotton, my leds were 30 degrees.. but i mite consider using the cotton for the fan-speed switch later on, i took out the original plastic diffuser thing.

Those don't look like BLUE behind the bottom section. Did you go with white on the temp/fan speed? I can see where the red from the defrost button bled down into the fan symbol.
Is the 30 degree angle enough IYO? I might try those wide angle rated at 1900mcds. They my actually be as bright, but more diffused. I'm tempted to try them.

ACTUALLY what happened was this:
the defrost button i used BLUE. but it still shows up red.. the red/purple thing ur seeing is actualy the STOCK amber bulb. I left the stock amber bulb in so it would still shine to the TEMPERATURE lever, and i removed the plastic diffuser that was behind the fan-speed. 30 degrees is great. The only problem you'll run into is the fan-speed, i don't feel like taking it out and readjusting it anymore, it's already in there.
So yea, the red/purple thing ur seeing is a mix between the stock amber bulb and the blue leds. i dindt use any whites anywhere.

can u rephrase that please, i'm not sure if ur asking how to do it or asking me how much i'll do it for

i'll assume u were trying to say "looks nice but man it takes forever"
yea mine are just as bright as the indiglos.. prefect match.. it's not distracting, i mean indiglos dont really distract me.. i mean ppl already have their flashing cell fones and **** so yea.. it mite distract OTHER drivers.. but look at the VWs and stuff

Hehehe sorry about that. What do you have to do? and What kind of lights fit them?

for the gauge cluster, your best bet is just buying some reverse indiglos. They require too many LEDs and it's just much easier to buy some revesre indiglos.
