This bloody engine!

ok if you read any of my old posts the real long story short is i bought a car where the guy lied and i found out later that its pretty much burning a quart of oil a day depending on my driving. i swapped the head to a better nicer head and i can actually feel a deference in the torque and performance but i am still burning almost as much oil. compression test cylinder 1 through 4 and it is, 190,180,175,175. Anyone got one of those cool websites where they can hook you up with an H22A4 engine for a decent price and is something i'm sure it'll run? Weighing my options and what i can do and or afford to ensure i can keep my baby on the road.

if you just replaced the head, then find a block and tear it all down and throw on a new head gasket, intake gasket and maybe some other seals then you should be set to go. If all you need is a bottom end and you need to be ont he cheap, that is the best way to go.

ya I thought about doing that as well. The head i got was off of another lude and he had the title on hand and the car with 49k miles on it.. so i can only assume the head was in good conidition. However i just found new breaking news haha.

The guy i bought the head from told me he had a problem in the bottom end. Earlier i made a post about my vtec not working kronn you remember that i'm sure. the gasket to the vtec solenoid rubber gasket has a thin mesh grill in it and if it gets clogged the vtec wont work. the picture is my old solenoid i took off. Inside it looks like metal shavings and crap. If that happened in the bottom end of his block then it might or most likely traveled up to there and who knows where else.. So I'm thinking the head might be compromised and i might need to start looking for a motor i like as cheap as i can.

no, dont worry about that unless that little screen is broken(the screen actually will save the head). once i spun the 3 bearing on the balance shaft, the engine ran but with flickering oil light; i tore it down and the screen in the vtec solenoid was filled with metal shavings. I took the head off, took the cams out and then cleaned the whoel thing with brake cleaner, they didnt appear to be any metal anywhere so i got another block, and put the two togther. Just inspect the ehad very good and clean out all the oil passages, monitor if any shavings com eout and as long as they didnt get under the cam caps and scratch the surfaces you shoul dbe good. Dont forget to replace the three o rings(oil orfice ones), you dont have to but they are cheap and easy so if you have them out might as well.

make sure you clean out the vtec solenoid really good to, take the top off and inspect the hole in the little round weight. Also, toucha a magnet to it to see if it is steel. If it is use a magnet while cleaing you head out.

So you dont think if the cylinder wall of his motor was being scratched that the shavings traveled pass the valves without damaging them? I cleaned the hell out of that head before i put it on so i'm thinking if that gasket really does kind of catch stuff then hopefully there isnt any left. Rebuilding the bottom end isnt a bad idea, it just concerns me that the head is not in as good condition that i want. and to be honest i'm not sure what oil rings your refering too.
