Beginner Prelude Owner...need some advice

I just bought an 01 prelude base model for $7000 with mileage at 93000. Everything came stock and I'm looking to start modifying it with a few performance parts, but I don't have a good knowledge of whats out there in the market nor whats the best for a prelude. Does anyone have any suggestions on getting a good exhaust system thats not too expensive? Thanks!

I am still semi-new here, but I spent a fair amount of time looking for a nice prelude that was mostly stock.. I ended up finding a 99 prelude for $7500.. stock except for a lip kit and aftermarket stereo eq. It has 115k miles. Maybe you just found an excellent deal, but I would be careful.. that price sounds to good to be true(all 2001's I found were at LEAST 9k.. most closer to 10k.. 2-3k less cash makes me wary(or a rebuilt title maybe?)). It could be the prices in florida are different than wherever you are.. but still, unless you were great buddies with the person you bought it from.. take it easy!

Exhaust wise.. my personal opinion, find out a local exhaust shop that has a good reputation with vehicles like ours. I would never buy that prefab pre-bent crap you can buy online.. get recommendations on mufflers, find out if removing the resonator or cat will cause problems or make your car obnoxious.. but it is usually a TON cheaper to get a CUSTOM exhaust which is usually made of better quality stuff, you have input on the size of it, you don't have to worry about shipping it... and if you buy the premade crap, you usually still have to have it installed.

I took my Toyota Paseo(a few cars ago) to a guy I had do a few exhausts for me.. and I think it was a 1.6 liter motor.. well short of it, night and day difference. None of that ricer sound(whiney higher pitches and usually too loud sound that alot of premade exhausts have), it sounded more like a mustang, no joke. No I don't mean those loud horrible sounding mustangs that have no cat.. I mean the deep rumble you RARELY hear out of any 4 banger. I don't mean HUGE rumble like some muscle cars have... but way better sounding than most 4 bangers. I paid maybe 5-600 bucks for the work(with parts), but that was significantly cheaper than most of the stuff I could have gotten that was premade.. I got header separate than the exhaust, but most exhaust kits wouldn't include that anyways.

IMO, leave the exhaust the way it is. a I4 shouldnt sound like a V8 Mustang that has real muscle to back up that sound (like a cobra). i think the exhaust as is sounds good on the prelude anyhoo

lol. I meant it had a sound comparable to a mustang.. not exactly the same. Was just stressing that it sounds like a manly sound, not the sound of a teenage boy in puberty. I myself am leaving my exhaust alone.. but my opinion to what you said.. you shouldn't hear anything from your exhaust on your prelude.. my neighbor has one that like mine is just... quiet. If you can hear your exhaust at all... you may have a leak(if it is stock).

Let's /hijack this thread..(j/k)..

Whats a ws6?

And me personally... I wouldn't mind getting my resonator taken out if I knew there wouldn't be any kind of ramifications mechanically wise. I know it takes away some of your exhausts ability to flex/move which in the long haul can cause issues... but doesn't it just make it that much quieter, and removal just give it a little bit more aggressive of a sound?

I went with a mostly stock car to avoid too much attention from our often overly zealous police.. but the exhaust is a mod most of us are picky about.

making power gains in the H22 is an expensive task. Search the normally aspirated forum archives; you'll see the kind of parts and money it takes to massage more power out of the engine.

And yes, the search button is your friend. There have been relatively few new performance parts to come into the market since the Prelude's deletion in 2001. You can rest assured that if it's made for the prelude, this site has almost certainly talked about it.

1. Click Naturally Aspirated
2. Click N/A Performance Library
3. Read
4. Search
