BB6 and BB8 ????

I have a european prelude chassis type BB8. (1999)

Does this chassis type exist in the US? What model is it there? I need to know cuz i am getting pieces from the US for it.... What are the differences between the two?

If the american types are all BB6, when i get interior parts are the BB8 ones different? like possibly the carbon fiber interior kit (from handa) ?

Thanks!!!!!!

The number after the "BB" in the chassis code usually indicates the engine type and/or trim grade on Hondas. BB6 is the code for all North American 5th gen Preludes. And it includes the H22a4- powered Base 5spd, the H22a4- powered Base Automatic, and the H22a4-powered TypeSH 5spd.

I know that both the BB6 AND BB8 code Preludes are also sold in Japan, but I do not know what the differentiation is...

What engine does your Prelude have? 2.2L VTEC? 2.0L non-VTEC?
Do you have 4 wheel steering? All of these factors may be reasons why your chassis code is different.

I think that for the most part, the US parts should be interchangable with yours. Things like suspension parts, air intakes, strut baces, and all interior parts should work fine. However, things like the exhaust manifold and cat-back piping will depend on your engine configuration.

its a 2.2 VTEC rated at 185 hp (but not a soul can tell me why) with 4WS.

I realize that things like the exhaust manifold might be different, and that rims and such are diff. cuz of 4WS...

what about doing stuff like putting in the AEM intake though?

do you know if this car is obd1 or 2?

and what about interior pieces? shouldnt those for the most part be the same? i dont see why honda would put screws in diff places just for kicks...

thanks

If you have the 2.2L H22a motor, the air intake should be the same as in the US and Japan. You can verify the engine code by the stamp on the front of your engine block. Look to the lower left hand side of the engine as you are facing it. The block code is stamped there.

It should be OBD2. Do you know if your car has a second O2 sensor?

I would wager that the interior bits are all the same. All of the pictures of 97+ Prelude interiors that I've seen of Japanese and Euro market cars are pretty much the same as the US version. There are some differences in the climate controls in Japan and the Japan version was available with a DVD navigation system in the dash center... But I would guess that the US Carbon Fiber trim kit should fit. The only issue you may have is what side is the driver's side... Are cars in Switzerland Left-hand or Right-hand drive? All US cars are Left-Hand Drive.

Do you have any pics of your Prelude's interior you can post? Or you can try doing a search for US interior pics on these boards. You should be able to determine if there are any major interior differences...

I think difference could lie in the 4WS.

yeh, i heard somewhere that the difference is between the 4wds and non-4wds.

the interior parts should fit. hparts.com sometimes has installation instructions online...take a look at the pict and see if it looks like whats on yours. ..like carbonfiber interior stuff, etc.

That's a great idea kenchan!

Yeah the BB8 doesnt exist in the US. for the interior, im just gonna risk it and order pieces - i think it should work. It looks exactly the same as in the US and i drive on the same side of the road as you.
