Base tranny vs. SH tranny

I was thinking about this the other day, and I was wondering, what is really the difference between the Base tranny and SH tranny? Wouldn't the SH tranny beable to work on a Base motor just as well as the Base tranny does with the SH motor? Since the ATTS unit is seperate from the tranny itself, what is really the big deal about it? I know for a fact the Base tranny works with an SH motor, cause I did this with my first Prelude, and had an adapter plate made in order to use my axles. I did a search and really didn't find any answers, so I figured I'd just start a thread about it and see what people say.

Thanks in advance

ATTS Removal

The short answer is the trannies are very different.

You cannot install an ATTS unit on a base block. The necessary mounting points aren't there, not to mention how you'd relocate the oil filter ports.

To install ATTS on a base (and I don't know why you'd want to), you'd need an SH block and tranny, then you'd need to add all the wiring for the ATTS sensors along with the steering angle sensor in the steering column.

The reason why you can't just use an intermediate shaft with the SH trans is the coaxial output on the driver's side. Only the ATTS unit will properly mate with it. The passenger's side would be the same, it's the driver's side that causes problems.

I know the ATTS unit won't bolt up to a base block, I'm just wondering if there would be issues about using an SH tranny on a base block? Thanks Billy, I was just wondering why it would/wouldn't be possible. Damn, I guess I should've looked at the SH tranny that I worked on the other day, but I wasn't even thinking about it
