Is this badluck?

Sooooooo.....about 4 weeks ago , my USDM h22a4 died, timing belt tore and 2 valves were bent. Went to a shop in Montreal and bought a JDM H22 apparently at 60 000 km. I've had it installed by them, used the car for 2 weeks it was running incredibly smooth and it did feel stronger. And then yesterday on my way to work...the crank pulley fell off....

Now I mean it litteraly fell off, I heard a noise as if my exhaust pipe had fallen off, like metal grinding on concrete. Then big CLUNK noise is gone BUT , lost power steering, A/C and alternator and I saw the pulley on the road, I stopped poped the hood, there was oil everywhere, the engine although was running perfectly for the next 15 seconds, by the time I could actually pull over, stopped it and did not start it since. Got it towed to the garage and they told me the timing belt had moved but they didn't know if there was any damage done to the engine...now..

Any idea what may have caused this? They did check the timing belt before installing the engine in so could it be they did not torque the bolt properly? And if there was any damage done to my crankshaft or valves...the engine would have stopped right there right??

That sucks. They could have not tightened the crank pulley to spec. If it backs out, there could be problems.

I would almost equate that to breaking a timing belt (since that's almost what happened).

Did they ever remove the pulley? Did it remove its self or break off?

Sounds like the Prelude curse btw.

I'd take the car right back to the shop and have them replace that motor asap. If it broke within 2 weeks, they should replace it for free or fix any damage

I've taken it back to the shop, the guys was amazed the pulley fell off, I don't think they did remove it prior to installation although he told me they checked the timing belt before installing the engine. He told me the bolt was shorter than it should have been, so they ordered a new one and new pulley. The valves were not affected nor was the crankshaft (according to them) so they will replace the pulley and as an apology they will replace my front suspension for free as it's pretty much dead now.

I will although check the pulley daily to see if it woobles....

Btw what is this "prelude" curse??

You have it and will continue to for years until you no longer own that car.

For some reason I've read on other prelude sites that people have had their crank pullies fall off.
