Do I sense some confusion here-I am not sure. BUT, the SH has a very complex device known as ATTS with a computer of its own. It has an algorithm in it that works with sensors that are not on a Base. It is also speed sensitive. Personally, I'll take an LSD over this thing as the LSD is a full time device and the ATTS works under specific factory preset conditions.
As to cost difference, it is true that the oil filter on an SH is relocated along with the fact that the electronics are more complex and there is that 90 pound box attached to the drivetrain. There are also a number of component parts of the suspension that are very different to the extent that they are not interchangable with a Base.
Then we have the sway bar issue-which applies to both Base and SH handling characteristics. The larger rear sway bar reduces understeer-it does not loosen up the rear (IMO). My car has a Neuspeed rear bar and now corners flatter and tighter than stock. (Then again I do have a modded suspension <G>.)
Like Imagepree-I'm just adding to the discussion.
