axngen, and other 17"x7 +40 215/40/17 ppl

i read a lot of posts about rubbing issues with +40 17x7 rims with 215/40/17

can u guys give me an update on any rubbing issues?

my car is lowered around 1.4" with H&R sports, and i have tokico illumina adjustable shocks.

ps: can anyone give me the weight of RH evo C3, C2 and/or S7 rims for 17"?

Well my +42 offset doesn't stick out at all, they're pretty much flush, maybe set in a little... I don't think you'll have any problems with them sticking out too far with a +40 offset

..I have a +40 offset and its practically flush and looks great. I did have to cut off this little tab inside the rear fenders though. oh, and I'm on 215/45/17s.

I'd get nothing less than a 45mm to prevent rubbing on a lowered car. If those rims your looking at don't come in something higher than a 40, than I'd have to say, save yourself some trouble and find another rim....

Check http://www.wheelweights.net/ for a fairly comprehensive listing of weights.

What criteria are you looking for in a rim?

yeah its a plastic tab inside the rear fender that I had to cut off. not only because of the offset but because I'm running on 215/45/17s too I think. anyways, the tab is small - I just did a search with the 3 words "rear tab fender" and a small list of good threads regarding your question came up. it beats rolling the fenders. good luck and feel free to ask if anything else comes up.

i want 17x7, with at least a +43 offset, and it HAS to be respectibly light (nothing like +19 lbs). i would like to fit a 215/40/17 tire. but the tough part of it all is, it cant be like ridiculous price...

hence i wanted buddyclub P1-racing or kosei K1 17"'s which fit the exact criterion. AND theyre decent price

but i am having a HELL of a time finding them. theyre like at least 6wks backorder so i kinda gave up.

the next rim i saw was knockoff RH Evo S7 .. but the offset is +40. theyre not 16-ish lbs like the K1/P1 rims but its good enough

Here's what I did:
1) Put on your new wheels and enjoy the sound of grinding and rubbing in the rear over every single bump for 1 day.
2) Next day - go to Home Depot.
3) Spend $39.98 on a Dremel(tm) brand rotary tool kit (or similar rotary tool). A battery-powered model is probably preferable in this case.
4) Go home. Charge the Dremel battery.
5) Attach the metal de-burring attachment to your Dremel.
6) Locate the inner "bumper tabs" where the "point" of your rear bumper cover meets the rear quarter panel.
7) Carefully Dremel the plastic tabs down. Start from the inside of the fender on the tab and work your way out. Go slowly, and clean the plastic shavings out of the bit frequently. One false slip and you will Dremel some paint right off the outside surface of the bumper cover or your quarter panel.

Here's a pic of my car from the front and rear...my wheels are +40mm offset:

As you can see, you can't see the wheels...they don't stick out at all. They very rarely rub...even when I autocross.

I'd tough it out and wait for the K1's. The problem being is that light, inexpensive, and 17" don't usually go hand-in-hand for any offset.

Maybe one of the styles offered by Rota?

thansk for everything guys....

after all this talk... i bought buddyclub P1racing which are 17x7 +43 so i shouldnt have that much rubbing issues than +40.

http://www.first-inc.co.jp/buddyclub/p1/p1_lup1.htm

some HATE them and think they look UGLY on a lude... but some just LOVE them and think they look so damn hot...

to each his own i guess. theyre light, not that expensive. only cost a few more coins that kosei k1 (which are knock offs of the P1)... so i just went with the buddy clubs.... i also like the silver it comes in, compared to kosei k1 silver paint...

anyway. wish me luck

thanks again
