Auto trans filter/fluid change yes or no?

With 113,000 miles on my 97 auto, should I do a filter/fluid change? I have heard the auto is "sealed for life" and this kind of service is not recommended. Fluid on the dipstick looks fine.

Also the car is supposed to have a low fuel light according to the owner's manual but even with the needle pointing pretty much at the E line I see no light....is there a light or not?

Filter is not replaceable. When was the last time the fluid was changed?

Pull out the cluster and replace the bulb.

Maybe your not running the fuel down low enough. Problem with the fuel float possibly.

Change your trans fluid as often as possible as they have problems anyway! Honda and other reputable sources will tell you to buy like a case of Honda ATF Z1 (the new stuff). Drain and refill, drive for like a couple hundred miles and drain and refill. Then a final drain and refill after a short while to "drive" old fluid out.

How often should the automatic transmission fluid be changed on the Preludes? I live in CA and only dirve my car about 20 miles a day. I looked under "Normal Conditions" in the manual, and it says to change it every 90K miles or 6 years. Seems like a bit long to me. Some mechanics have told me to change it every year. Any suggestions on here? I'd like to see what the majority of Prelude owners say.

honestly, I would agree with changing it every year if you could afford it or at least once every 2 years. Our SS is known for dying so the more care you give it... the longer you have to save up for a 5-spd swap or a level10 rebuild... whichever fancy your goals.

Edit: typos lol english getting gooder

Never, because you shouldn't own a Sissy-Stick.

Sell it and buy a 5spd.

Change it every 30k max, every Honda is that way, all Honda's from 97-02 had auto trans problems. You just drain and fill, never flush, holds 3 qts of ATF DW-1 as the Z-1 is no longer sold.

Changing the Auto Trans Fluid is one of the simplest maintenance jobs you can perform on the Lude. I change mine about every 15k miles. It will cost you about $8 per quart and however long it takes you to remove 1 plug, drain, wipe off magnet, replace plug and then pour in 3 quarts of fluid.

Yes, your auto is a weak link for the Lude. I had mine rebuilt at 166k miles and now have about 184k on it.

I just flushed and refilled all fluids on my '01 SH and honestly it feels like a new car...

Then again I also did a new engine mount and air induction service...

^Hope you didn't flush the trans using a machine, that's the worst thing you can do to a Honda. Only way they recommend is by doing 3 drain and refills, test driving between each putting the car through all the gears.

I just did it and definitely have seen an improvement. It takes about 2.5quarts. I also let it drain for about an hour just to make sure everything was out.
