Attn: Those who have 17s and +40 offset

For those of you who have 17 inch wheels with a +40 offset and 215-40-17 sized tires, I'm just wondering if you have any rubbing issues. Please let me know if you're lowered too, because I have I think around a 2 inch drop (not sure exactly how much b/c i have GC coils). It seems that the wheels I want, Racing Hart M7000s, are only readily available in a +40 offset for some reason. I'd just like to get some facts and opinions before spending my $$. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks folks.

Re: Attn: Those who have 17s and +40 offset

I have 17s with a +40 offset and 215/45/17 sized tires. I'm lowered 1.5" (I think?) with H&Rs and Koni Yellows. I didn't have to roll my fenders but just had to cut a little plastic tab thingy from inside the two rear fenders I think. they were really small and that was it. no more rubbing unless I'm speeding and I fly over some hugeass hole.

If you drop your car around 1.5 inches, you may get some minor rubbing. I have the GC setup and my rims are +40mm offset (a hair over 1.5 inches front/back)...when I drive normally, and even when I autocross, rubbing is very rare.

At 2 inches, expect it to rub often.

jacques, can you tell me the height in finger gaps? i never measured my stock height and did you have to cut those things in the rear fenderwall off too? i'm guessing your wheels were hard to get in anything higher than +40 too huh.. thanks.

I don't have very big fingers, but it's a hair tighter than 2 fingers in the rear, and a hair looser than 2 fingers in the front...if that helps.

my fingers are pretty damn skinny too...you mean the other way around though right? i'm basing it on how most people have the back a little higher than the front to improve handling. i have a little less than 2 fingers in the front now and 2 fingers in the back.. assuming i leave the ride height alone and put on the new setup, the gaps should become smaller right?

Yup...even though you'll have less sidewall, the size difference will make the gap a little smaller. I'd adjust the GCs accordingly. I have slightly more gap in the front, partly because the front coils are dealing with more weight than the rear, and also that some of the roads in STL aren't very forgiving.

My winter wheels are 17x7" +40mm. The tires are 215/40/17 Toyo FZ4s. I am lowered about 1 1/2" on Tanabe SuperH springs and Koni Yellows. They rubbed like a mofo in the back until I trimmed those bumper tabs with a Dremmel. It has never rubbed since.
