To anyone with the JDM TypeS intake

  • Would you say that it is a LOT bigger than the stock one or just a little bit?
  • Also you know that part that bulges out after the intake box?....would you say that has a larger overall diameter than an AEM CAI tube?

Re: To anyone with the JDM TypeS intake

..umm to answer your first question I would have to say that the JDM is moderately larger. it effectively fills in most of the space left unused by the stock USDM one.

your second question I can't answer because I don't have an AEM CAI to compare it to.

I'd like to add, however, that the materials used to fabricate the USDM and the JDM are somewhat different. the USDM air intake box is made from a hard ABS plastic while its pipe/tubing is some sort of soft, rubbery compound. whereas the JDM TypeS uses the hard ABS plastic almost completely throughout. I have always thought that the USDM piping might actually be soft enough to decrease in diameter under the slight vacuum conditions at high-throttle. since the JDM intake is hard plastic at this point, it may actually hold the advantage (over the USDM) here because I doubt its diameter would change even under WOT

Hmmm, ok then how's this........about how large a diameter should a pipe have to be just about equal to that bulge in the TypeS intake chamber? Any guess?
Thank you for your reply by the way.

I know that already. This thread isn't so that I can make up my mind on whether to buy an AEM or a TypeS intake though.
Sorry if it was misleading

Okay .. the Type-S intake - at it's widest point - is 5 inches across and 3.5 inches high. That's pretty much the size of the entire hard plastic piece that makes up most of the intake. It's a mostly rectangular-type shape.

Then after you can imagine the diameter compared to a aem?
