Anybody have fun changing oil filter?

Is it just me or is our 5G the WORST car to change the oil filter on ? It takes me no less than 3 extensions and a universal joint just to get the damn thing loose. Of all the cars me and my buddies have had and have done oil changes on, this H22A is the biggest pain in the a$$ !!!

ehhh, it is in a pretty inconvenient place. but with the right jacks or lift, and the right tool it's not that bad. Just a pain in the arse keeping it off the flex mesh of the collector.

I got the filter wrench from hparts. . 1500 miles till test time.

i havent tried changing filters on any other cars before, but it sure seems like a ***** to me. the first time i did it, i couldnt get it off. my neighbor saw me and came over to help, since he's done a lot of oil changes in his time. he ended up breaking the filter and oil was leaking all over.. brought it over to texaco the next day, haha

Yea, I just did oil change, it sucks. Bad positioning, my accord v6 is very convient. I think that oil filter wrench will do lots of good!

Actually, I find changing the filter on the prelude to be very easy. At least compared to my civic and my crx. They stuck the filter pretty far up in the engine block for those. At least the prelude is pretty easy to get to. The only problem is the oil dripping on that mesh so my car smells like burning oil for the next thousand miles after I change the filter.

I hate that too. I have been wrapping the flex pipe in a towel or foil and have had no more burning oil smell

I don't use the filter wrench to tighten the filter. I just do it by hand. I've only changed it once 'caus ei got my car spanking new in AUgust, but am going to do it again in less than 300 miles from now. I'm looking forward to it. I think I should be able to get the filter off easy this time around. Also, I want to see if I over tightened the drain plug. I didn't go crazy in my last oil change but I did tighten it a bit. Didn't use a torgque wrench. Can't afford to pay $50 for one.

I don't have fun when I change my oil filter and oil but it takes less then 15 minutes for me to do. Not hard if you have the right equipment...I've been changing my own oil since my free oil change at 6000 miles. Cars at 60k+ now.

I tried the towel thing, was a lil better, now foil, there's an idea. I'll be trying that next time.

And I only plan on using the wrench to get teh filter off. Does anyone know what torque spec the factory uses for the filters. . I couldn't get my original one off, had to go to a quick lube place to loosen it for me. I don't tighten it that much myself, but just curious.

just a question, how many of you remove the filter from under the car as opposed to from above? Looking at it, seems easier from below. . .

Noticed the original poster of this thread has an SH. Yah, I am sure that the oil filter on the SH block is much more difficult to get to than on the base block. I have a base, it's easy to get to.

This last time was the third time I've changed my oil since I've had my car and it doesn't get any easier each time... A lot of patience and a few swear words usually get me by...
