I was bored scanning over the FI forum looking for info, and from what I've been reading there seems to be more problem with the Type SH then the base. When I bought the car I decieded to shell out the extrad 2grand for the sh in thought that its a lil more superior then the base. Is it really? I don't autocross nor really driven the base model so I personally don't know how much more superior the sh is. It might just be because this is my first real car but I just don't get the atts working. I know some people swear its the shiet but really don't notice that much. Anyways, I've also noticed that parts for the sh seems to be harder to find. I have the wrong dc headers on my car and had to cut and extend my exhaust just cause the shop didn't have the sh model, they said it'd be the same. And the shocks/springs/ coilovers, you can slap any thing together for the base but use only this spring with this shock or set the perch this low, etc. Now I'm considering getting a turbo, and what do I find out? Besides that Greddy wouldn't be making a kit for the sh, is that the atts will be giving flipping out half the time or not work at all. I'm not even sure if Drag or F-Max make 2 different kits, or does the kit need *minor* modifications to fit. Ok I'm done sorry about the lenght.... Peace out
well, it depends what you plan on doing with the car. If you just want a go fast in a line car, that would be a base model. You get some powertrain loss in the type sh, and it will slow you down a little bit.
Now, if you bought an SH for auto-x or road racing, well, then, you bought it for the right reason. It also handles like a gem on the road as well.
As for ATTS troubles, i've got almost every major bolt on done to my sh, and i've NEVER had ATTS go out on me. And trust me, i drive like a nut on the street. Only problem i had with ATTS was doing my clutch, and it took a little longer than a normal transmission.
In all honesty, the SH is better for taking turns, the base is better for strait line. If all you care about is the 1/4 and street racing, get a base. If you want to road race, or don't care about 1/4 times, keep your Sh.

Too late I already got the sh. I was just venting a lil.... I was actually looking to join the scca to do some autocross but I think I might lose atts due to a lil turbo... not too sure on that yet. I wonder if I'll even notice it not being there???
in all honesty, the difference in straight line acceleration between these two is quite negligible. the base has a mere 88 lb weight advantage, not enough to substantiate the claim that the base will kill the SH in the straight line everytime. not true by any means whatsoever. the logic comes to play when you save $3000 by gettin the base model and putting that $$$ towards mods. $3000 is a considerable amount of money and can be used for mods. the ATTS is not something that you'd use on a daily basis, so most people don't see the usefulness of it, which is understandable. but drive both models and take corners on each pushing it to the limit, and you'll see where the $3000 makes its presence in the SH. not that the base is a bad handling car. it's still one of the best FWD handlers on the road, but the difference is apparent when comparing the base and SH, IMO. i have no regrets buying the SH, and have had no problems with the supercharger on it. but maybe i'm just one of the fortunate ones.
How much boost are you running? Is it just for turbo cause I hear that no one can get thier atts and turbo to work together. I'm not sure how much boost they're running either, 8psi maybe? *if only the jrsc could have a bov*

are you talking about finding an aftermarket suspension setup for the front?

what suspension deal?
i thought this has been discussed over and over and over again...
heh... i'm glad i'm over and done with it.
it was sooooo hard.
Just buy koni yellows and ground controls, and never worry about it again.

Those are the reasons I went with the base prelude.. basically, it's something else to break. Talk to the 4WS guys. The extra money they want was stupid, too - a Quaife LSD is $900, and even if you figure the install price (where you can have your clutch and flywheel done) it's still much cheaper. You have enough left over for a set of koni shocks and whatever springs you want, a nice strut bar, and a donation towards some better rubber. ATTS also has issues on an AutoX course. WHY honda couldn't have just put in a LSD is beyond me, oh well.
That's just my opinion though. The price difference is also almost enough to get the JRSC or a turbo kit and all the goodies..
ok...

period.
i remember the 3rd day i had my sh. I was getting off this off ramp that was a HUGE circle going up hill. I was following my frined in his 4g vtec. He had custom valved koni's, 425/550 ground controls, and a huge 28mm rear sway bar. I hung with him the whole way around the turn with my stock sh w/ a front strut bar.

I test drove both when I got my base, and I drive to the limit . The SH handled noticably better stock. It didn't handle better than I would expect my base to after $5,000cdn in modifications. i.e. I've driven in prepped civics and CRXs that drove better on the autoX track than the SH does out of the box. Mind you, those cars had a LSD installed and weren't going to be really confortable on the street, too. I hope ATTS is something that finds it's way into other cars though, because it's a good idea.
That's just my opinion, though. The only racing I do is autoX.. something the ATTS has had problems with keeping up with.

Steve
yeah, the sh is more of a road race car, not a tight corner racer like auto-x. when in saloms and quick turns, i find myself fighting with the atts more than it helping me. That is my only problem with it. I rarely see this problem on the street, only on the track. Too bad there isn't a way to speed up the reaction time of the unit.

if you take a right then a left really fast, while turning left, you feel it still pulling to the right, so you gotta turn the wheel even more...
hard to explain...
i'm surprised its never happened to mr. 533 stx.

Well, no problems yet...i think...the only problem would be trying to understand how to use it or control it I was going 50-60 going for a 45 degree angle (not 90, 45 it is) and I lost control and almost hit a bunch of parked cars. Well, this was the second day I had my lude and my second time driving manual.

it does take a bit of getting used to, i must admit. it drives like no other FWD.
