CLIFF NOTES: basically you can open your trunk from inside your car with a button rather than pulling on the latch by your feet, that way you can keep it locked and have the button in a descreet area that only you know about.
Well no one has really discussed this so I figured I'd post a thread about it.
Anyway, you know the latch you guys pull to open the trunk, by the drivers seat, you know how you can "lock" it so the valet people can't open it and crap right? Anyway... if you get the accord trunk popper, you can just wire up a button and you won't need to use that latch ever again (unless of course your battery runs out).
Anyway I'll describe it in two ways, one is for people with the trunk popper wired to an alarm, and the other method is for people who don't have an alarm to wire it to and would just like to sort of "relocate" the button.
This is going to be somewhat vague if you don't know about relays or how the trunk popper works so do a search on both topics if you don't get it.
Ok for the people that already have it wired to your alarm:
Basically the trunk popper requires a positive high current pulse. Typical alarms send out a low-current negative pulse, the negative pulse is used to activate a relay which in turn gives a positive pulse straight from a constant to the trunk popper, thus causing it to activate. Anyway..
*remember to disconnect your battery before attempting any kind of electrical work*
You'll need a "momentary switch", two pronged.
-Tap into the wire that goes to your alarm brain (low current negative pulsed) with a new wire, run that to wherever you want to mount the button.
-With another wire, ground it to a bare metal ground somewhere
-With the button, take the wire that you tapped from your alarm brain and connect that to one prong.
-The other prong of the button goes to the ground that you grounded somewhere else.
Here's a diagram for you lazy fawkers:
Yea so now when you press the button it'll activate the trunk popper.. just don't hold it down forever =-P
Ok for those without an alarm:
You can do this without a relay... but you risk killing the life of the momentary switch
Anyway without a relay it's very very simple
-Tap into a positive constant 12v source
-One prong of the switch to the 12v source
-Other prong to the trunk popper
Yea that's it
Here's how it is with the relay:
I'll just post the picture, you guys should know enough info about relays if you want to figure this out.
Also you can put the switch on either the positive side or the ground side of the relay activator ends but I drew it for the ground side to avoid confusion
*shrug*
