Another reason to get the accord trunk poppper...

CLIFF NOTES: basically you can open your trunk from inside your car with a button rather than pulling on the latch by your feet, that way you can keep it locked and have the button in a descreet area that only you know about.

Well no one has really discussed this so I figured I'd post a thread about it.

Anyway, you know the latch you guys pull to open the trunk, by the drivers seat, you know how you can "lock" it so the valet people can't open it and crap right? Anyway... if you get the accord trunk popper, you can just wire up a button and you won't need to use that latch ever again (unless of course your battery runs out).

Anyway I'll describe it in two ways, one is for people with the trunk popper wired to an alarm, and the other method is for people who don't have an alarm to wire it to and would just like to sort of "relocate" the button.

This is going to be somewhat vague if you don't know about relays or how the trunk popper works so do a search on both topics if you don't get it.

Ok for the people that already have it wired to your alarm:

Basically the trunk popper requires a positive high current pulse. Typical alarms send out a low-current negative pulse, the negative pulse is used to activate a relay which in turn gives a positive pulse straight from a constant to the trunk popper, thus causing it to activate. Anyway..

*remember to disconnect your battery before attempting any kind of electrical work*

You'll need a "momentary switch", two pronged.

-Tap into the wire that goes to your alarm brain (low current negative pulsed) with a new wire, run that to wherever you want to mount the button.
-With another wire, ground it to a bare metal ground somewhere
-With the button, take the wire that you tapped from your alarm brain and connect that to one prong.
-The other prong of the button goes to the ground that you grounded somewhere else.
Here's a diagram for you lazy fawkers:

Yea so now when you press the button it'll activate the trunk popper.. just don't hold it down forever =-P

Ok for those without an alarm:

You can do this without a relay... but you risk killing the life of the momentary switch

Anyway without a relay it's very very simple

-Tap into a positive constant 12v source
-One prong of the switch to the 12v source
-Other prong to the trunk popper

Yea that's it

Here's how it is with the relay:
I'll just post the picture, you guys should know enough info about relays if you want to figure this out.

Also you can put the switch on either the positive side or the ground side of the relay activator ends but I drew it for the ground side to avoid confusion

*shrug*

the s2000 had a trunk popper

it's just that the 6th gen accord ones fit perfectly without modification onto the prelude's trunk

correct me if I'm wrong, but you need to have an aftermarket alarm for this to work.

i was just trying to point out the fact that you can press a button from inside your car to open the trunk rather than pull on that latch by your feet, that way you can keep it locked and have the button hidden or placed anywhere else to your desire.

in fact i'll edit my first post and add 'cliff notes' for you lazy fawkers

yea but lets say you're so used to pressing your remote, and u lock the latch by ur feet.. the one day u open thetrunk. and u throw ur keys in on accident and close the trunk

now ur ****ed.. there's no button to press to open ur trunk.. the latch is locked from inside the car.. the button that opens it is on ur keychain..

get it?

basically this could be useful as a "security feature" for ppl who DONT have an alarm.. and want to lock the trunk latch by the feet

Or you can use that nifty keyhole in the rear deck to unlock and pull down the rear seats to get your keys out of the trunk.

I know what you're saying but for me I just push the button and never forget to check for my keys when shutting the doors or trunk.

the keyhole in the backseat is as useless as the keyhole that locks the latch by your feet, since the keys will be locked in your trunk

Holy old thread batman

I have 2 master keys, one valet key, and the red one to reprogram the immobilizer which I don't even touch.

I need to make a copy of one of the keys and keep them in my wallet, I still haven't done so yet.

Neat... but if you pull hard enough on the lever when it's locked, it will open the trunk anyhow...

My friend has an Acura CL. In that car they do not have a lever cable pull system.

For greater security and cleaner rear styling, the CL's trunk has no key cylinder. The trunk lid can be released by the keyless remote, by a button on the driver's door panel, or by a backup manual release accessible via the pass-through in the rear seatback.

Does anyone know if the CL trunk popper is compatible with the Prelude?
