Another Another Crank Pulley Wobble Thread, I have No Luck
I just got my timing belt done last Saturday, car has 123,000km, I'm the original owner, this is the first time the timing belt has been done, that area has never been opened before. There's a slight wobble coming from the crank pulley.
Simple question, who's to blame?
Could it be the age of the car?
Could it be the plastic dampner in the back of the pulley?
Can I still continue to drive it until I go back to the shop on Monday? (I'll take it super easy)
Well only 1 of 2 things could have happened really, either the bolt was left loose or the pulley is coming apart. It is actually a 2 piece pulley that's held together by a rubber seal which can deteriorate and the outer belt ring for the A/C and alternator will come off causing the belts to collide.
Look at it and assess the problem, if it's a short trip you can drive without it but the battery will only be able to power to car for a very short trip before being drained without the help of the alternator.

Thing is presently its spinning both the AC and PS belt fine.
I just won't drive it much until Monday, not a big deal.
You need to tighten it down if it's loose, all you need is a deep 19mm 1/2" drive socket, 12" extension and a 1/2" drive ratchet and try to tighten the best you can so you can take it to someone who can properly tighten it.

Loose bolt or bad pulley aren't the only 2 options. It could be like mine, and if my suspicions are correct, a lot of other peoples as well, and be a BENT CRANK. How do I know mine is? Well hoping it was one of the 2 things you'd mentioned, I replaced both the crank pulley and bolt, and yes it's threaded properly and is very tight. And guess what, it still wobbles.
* If your crank pulley wobbles, you may have a bent crankshaft. *
well i took it to this performance shop that i trust and the guy said the pulley and hermonic balancer are coming apart and then i took it to my uncles shop and they said the same thing so im really hoping its just the pulley and balancer. like i said all i hear is a winding noise and it wobbles a lil
Bending the crank is pretty hard to do considering all H22a crankshafts are forged, you must beat on the car pretty hard to bend the crank.
i agree this is not really common
To the op this happend to me along time ago somehow the 19mm bolt just somehow started to walk the only thing i could think of was an improper torque from a previous repair I never had the proper honda crank pulley tools to hold the crank pulley in place so ive always used an impact gun "on a low torque setting" never had a problem since
I had the same problem and then they tried taking the crank pulley bolt off n bam it broke off. I would definately take it back to the shop n raise hell!!
ok i got just got my crank pulley and balancer changed today and my car still makes the winding noise like a supercharger and they said its cause i need to change my timing belt but it was already changed at 120,000 and my car has 145,000 now. can someone help me?
I think what dre2day is getting at is that the timing belt may be over tightened. I have the SC whine as well -- my timing belt was just done recently -- and the auto-tensioner can be to blame. There is a manual swap that can be done ala the h23s.
As far as the whine goes, I've taken it somewhere to get an opinion, and the mechanic there said that I should drive it for a while and it should stop. But your situation seems like it's been like this for a while?
no it just happened last week after i got the cam seals replaced cause of oil leaking. the guy said oil got on to a tensioner and they had to replace one
Yeah I had the SC Whine on mine every time I changed my timing belt if the crank isn't spinning crooked your ok give it like 2 weeks for the timing belt to loosen up and the whine will go away. I did my timing belt during the winter n maaaan was it loud but eventually it went away.
